Fugitive Destroyed Our 1800s Case

Donation protected
On December 13th we wanted to do our part to control crime in our downtown area when we recognized a wanted fugitive in our shop (J. Austin & Co on 6th St. in Grants Pass, Oregon.) who had recently escaped police custody. We called 911, not wanting to risk having this person escape again, the dispatch asked us if we could stay put and keep the individual occupied while waiting for their units.  We complied because this individual has been accused of burglarizing homes in the area. By taking him off the streets we were doing our best to make the city safer.  The fugitive made several attempts to resisted arrest. As a result two of our cases, one of the from the 1800s was destroyed. Some merchandise inside was also damaged.  This particular case was made over a century ago right here in Oregon and had much of its original glass in it. We are asking for support in getting a new case before Christmas.
