My daughter, Isadora, has a dream. A dream that many girls and boys alike have - to be the best gymnast that she can possibly be. I have never seen anything like the heart and dedication of a gymnast in all of my life. Gymnastics one of those odd sports where its completely competitive individually, and based on the concept of TEAM! These kids spend 30 plus hours in the gym every week, and sacrifice many aspects of being a child to acheive their goals and make their coaches and teammates proud.
Izzy did an incredible thing this Sunday just gone. She competed at Regionals in Las Vegas. I could feel her adrenaline course through her body every second of that competition. She was the only gymnast from her gym in this session. 65 girls in toll. As they presented each gym - there were many, as there were representatives from Nevada, Arizona, Northern California, Utah, and Southern California in attendance) - she mouthed to me... "Mom.. there are so many...". If you aren't a gymnastics parent, you may not understand what that kind of moment feels like. You are helpless. You simply send out all the love in your heart and as much grounding and centering as you can muster.
Being alone at first was hard for Izzy. She is a huge cheerleader for her teammates. She will often scream across a venue for a teammate who is competing. She already knew the results of all of the other sessions. She wanted to step up; and step up, she did.
Isadora placed 6th on bars, and 3rd on beam and floor for a 5th All-Around and a trip to Montana for Westerns. They take the top 7 girls and one alternate to create a team that represent the states I mentioned earlier. Again, as a parent, the relief, pride, love, and admiration is enough to make your heart explode (whether they reach their goals, or have an off day).
The Booster Club in her gym has generously donated some of the necessary funds for her to continue on this journey, as has the Volunteer Coordinators of Westerns - not to mention GK. We still have a ways to go to make this an adventure to remember. We are asking for you all to help her along her way. With 7 siblings, some in the home and some only in spirit, 3 weeks is not very much time to come up with the necessary financial goal.
These funds will help with airfare, hotel, a rental car, and team and individual activities the five days Isadora will be there. Every little bit helps. Isadora and I thank you in advance for any help you can provide - even if it is simply sending good juju her way and passing this on.
Please think of her April 27 - May 2nd. I know in her heart she will be thinking of each of you.
