San Diego Police Officer Wade Irwin was shot in the line of duty on July 28th, 2016.  He is a 9 year veteran of the San Diego Police Department.  Officer Irwin has a wife and small child to support.  He is looking at a long recovery and your help would be appreciated.

Officer Irwin is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the National Latino Police Officers Association.  He is a dedicated husband, father and loves serving and protecting.  He is fighting to get better every day and we can not wait to see him back in uniform.  His wife has been at his side attending to his needs.

It will be a long road to recovery even after the physical wounds heal.  His biological brothers and sisters traveled from miles away to be at his side.  His brothers and sisters in law enforcement are also praying for a speedy recovery.  Please help financially to keep his wife by his side and his family close during these most challenging times.  All proceeds go directly to Wade, his wife and baby girl.

Thank you for the comment/question. The Irwin family has control of the GoFundMe account. In regard to how the money is disseminated it is at their discretion.

Thanks again,

The GoFundMe account is getting closer to the goal of $40,000. I wanted to reach out and thank everyone who has helped and donated funds to help Officer Irwin and his family. This effort was global; no one person or organization stood alone with this effort; this is an example of the law enforcement brotherhood in San Diego County and the State of California.

A special thanks to Poway City Councilman James Cunningham ESQ, Brian Marvel, the directors and all of the members of the San Diego Police Officers Association, Nina Medina from NLPOA, The District Attorney’s Office, California State FOP Lodge’s, Long Beach POA, and most importantly, all of the citizens who have donated to this fund.

This account was set up to immediately assist the Irwin family with unexpected short-term, intermediate and long-term expenses. This fund will go a long way to help them.

My sincerest thanks,

Kevin McQuillen, President
Fraternal Order of Police
San Diego County Lodge

Hi, first I'd like to thank everyone who has donated so far to the Officer Wade Irwin fund. There have been several questions about the need for additional funds since Officer Irwin is still being paid by the city.

I'm Kevin McQuillen, President of the San Diego County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 10. Officer Irwin is a member. Nina Medina is a Vice President of the National Latino Police Officers Association.

This fund is set up specifically to deal with the unexpected expenses incurred by the family while going through this ordeal.

We are grateful for everyone's generosity and support and we do appreciate all of the questions and comments. Please remember that Officer Wade is a member of our police family and keep him, his family and all police officers in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Thank you very much.

Kevin

Vicki Allen asked if Wade will be paid. He will be compensated for a period of time via the City Industrial Leave Program. His spouse on the other hand is paid when she works. Like many San Diego families they are a two income household. I hope this provides some clarity and thank you everyone.

Makes me sick someone would even question the donations. These officers protect our lives and put theirs on the line for our wellbeing. Never knowing if it'll be the last time they kiss their kids goodbye or hug their spouse. My father was in SDPD for 30 plus years and he put others lives before his own. These offices deserve everything and more. They are truly San Diego's finest.

Yes he is paid workmans comp but his wife is most likely on an unpaid family leave. Their child needs to be cared for daily and their usual bills, set for 2 paychecks still have to be paid. Why would you try to dicredit anyone for helping someone that needs help. Your skepticism knows no bounds. You don't want to contribute, DONT but leave others who want to help alone. Just sayin!

I'd prefer 100% of my money go directly toward the family. Please post a mailing address for his precinct or P.O. Box. Thank you!

More than likely he is only paid 70% for workers compensation and his wife is receiving no pay from her job in answer to your question Vicki Allen. The outlier for deductibles will be huge.

Thank you to everyone of Wade's family in "blue" for making this donation page possible. Wades' wife grew up with my daughter in the Cottonwood neighborhood and this is too close to home in tragedy! Blessings and prayers to all who gave and continue to support this family. Also a prayer and hug to the family of the De Guzman Family for their loss. God Bless.

He will only be paid for a 40 hr week. Very few officers work only 40 hrs because of late arrests, court dates and filling in for sick or injured officers. Also there are extra expenses when you are in hospital. I wish the family well and only wish I had more extra cash.
