Irish Dance Love for the Loughrans

$21,972 of $1,000 goal

Raised by 335 people in 7 months
Created February 16, 2018
Cara Loughran was 14. She was a quiet, happy freshman at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, she was an Irish dancer with Drake, she loved the beach and she was taken from this Earth, senselessly.

As our community grieves and tries to heal, we want to show our support for the Loughran family in the simplest way we can, by providing meals and groceries for them over the coming weeks. We'll use these donations to organize a schedule and delivery of things they like and need. The Loughran family will be the sole beneficiary of all funds raised here.

We would like to invite the entire Irish Dance community to join us in this act of love for Denise, Damian & Liam Loughran.

If you have any questions, please contact Chrissy Deacy, TCRG, Drake Irish Dance South Florida.

Last night Cara should have been in dance class with us. The kids and I felt her absence and were missing her. I'm proud of how they handled themselves. And, devastated that Cara's family and the rest of our community are having to go through so much grief and heartache and fear.

Today would have been Cara's 15th birthday. We normally post well wishes on a private Facebook group that's for our local Drake Dance family. Instead, we're sharing information about her Celebration of Life and visitation hours. I'm so sad. The messages and donations from around the world have felt like a giant hug. Thank you! We look forward to being able to share that light and love with Cara's family.

We've been asked how the funds from this will be distributed. To be honest, we haven't sorted that out with the Loughrans but we will when they are ready. Everything we raise here is for them.

In the meantime, our Drake dancers and families are doing what we can to honor Cara's memory . We will continue to perform "Cara's Dance" and will wear purple (Cara's favorite color) ribbons. When we host Orange State Feis here in June we are planning some new things to honor Cara so that #CaraDancesOn .

With heartfelt thanks and appreciation,
Chrissy

We’re gobsmacked by how quickly our initial goal was reached and by the generosity of the Irish Dance community. It’s touched us to see all the thoughtful memorial gestures for Cara from around the world.

I spent today at the studio with some of our dancers and parents, making ribbons that honor Cara, which they’ll wear with their school costumes. We’re all still a bit numb but it felt good to be doing something creative, together.

We’re going to leave this fund open and everything donated will be given to the Loughran family.

Thank you, again!
