Coast Salish Women's Research

Indigenous Education and Teachings; to promote strong culturally appropriate research for Indigenous Intelligence, Technology, Culture and Wisdom. Please help us develop our own research and develop appropriate programs for future generations. After generations of patriarchy and colonial mind-set the Indigenous language's are disappearing, along with cultural protocols.

Longhouse Women have dipped into a void of misconception from foreign writings, for education and teachings, caused by racism, and sexism. Because of foreign contact  and historical legal writings, the treatment of Coast Salish Women were progressively oppressed into a life of poverty under the Indian Act. When in fact, they sit at the head of their families, with a Clan Mother ruling the nations, with powers given to them under cultural laws of the longhouse.

The women are important to Coast Salish territory, because longhouse culture has been filtered with misconception by historians, academics, governments, and researchers!Women of Coast Salish Territory have a Clan Mother, and carry the names of which is distributed to the children of the family. The sir names do not come from the men, they come from the women. The lands are named after the women, or visa-versa. Women also, carry the law of the lands.

The stories and history of Coast Salish Women really require serious research for written technology, intelligence, wisdom, and culture from present to historical information through the voice of Indigenous Women.

I began researching and documenting Indigenous Women's stories and history, their lives, culture, and work they did, and status they had within their family, community and nation about three years ago. The aspect of their spiritual devotion requires serious translation too! I did not gain funding from the government and women's grantors denied me.

I started out with my own savings, and now its diminished.

The social history and identity of Coast Salish Women have become completely wiped out, from foreign and patriarchal contact. We can review the gaps as the research defines itself.

Longhouse women live in two cultures and two social environments daily, with great struggles with serious  misconceptions in academic materials and historical books with legalities and binding laws that over-look their place in their cultural environment. We will review historical documents and provide culturally appropriate research for translation without contamination.

Coast Salish Women are not trying to find equality from North America, they are seeking restoration for their position and cultural recognition - which can only be done through researching their stories, without discrimination or bias. We have so many gaps, which requires serious work to find solutions.

This type of research is not an easy effort, because it requires a research questionnaire, oral history and cultural protocols, complex translation, assessment, analyzing material, focus on family laws, policies and legislative laws under the Indian Act and current problematic factors existing within the nation.

Native women have no voice in policy and legislation!
The words of women of Coast Salish Territory need acknowledgement. In order to do that, we must finish researching who they are, within their society.

Which of course, is very expensive. I reach out for your help to finish this massive endeavor.

Please help us gain the funds to complete the research project.  Your support and donations are badly needed! I appreciate your time and consideration.

We seek acknowledgement for Cultural Identity and a Voice for Policy and Legislative Acts in Canada that prevent Native Women from a successful life.  We begin by collecting the voice of Indigenous Women for strong cultural programming.

Aho...
