In Honor of Konner

April 24th is the birthday of Konner "Exotic Vn" Long, one of the early members of LDSGamers. He pretty much embodied what the group is all about, a 17 year old that was sick of the pitfalls of normal gamer culture, the swearing, the bullying and the general disdain for things that are wholesome. He found us because he wanted to live to a higher standard while enjoying his hobby - gaming. And he really left an impression on many. He was always cheerful, always helpful, he confidently stood up for his beliefs, and the guy was an amazing player! (I know we have a few Rank 3 Rumble players in Destiny now, but he was the first that I met!). 

However, Konner had a few things going on in real life that many of us didn't know at first. Konner had Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic disorder where the body can't process proteins and muscles atrophy. He didn't let it slow him down though. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, earned all three of the Duty to God awards, and had ambitions to serve as a missionary when he finished high school, all in spite of the challenges of being in the grips of a progressively restrictive disease. In just about every way, Konner displayed a maturity and dedication that was beyond his years. 

Last summer, Konner passed away from complications due to MD. Many of us were and are still devestated by the loss, but we feel peace and grace in knowing that Konner left a bright light here, and also brought that light with him to what comes next.  

This week, In Honor of Konner, and to celebrate his birthday, we are collecting funds to make a substantial donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We hope that you'll join us in both recognizing this wonderful young man and also in helping to find treatments and cures for this condition.
