Our vision for Hope Academy for Girls (HAFG) is that it be a self-sustaining, multi-purpose school for at-risk girls in the rural western area of Sierra Leone. The journey to making Hope Academy a reality started in
2012. Since then we have faced several obstacles, but we persevere because we believe in the transformative effect this school will have on the lives of the young women we aim to support.

2014: Found our building project well underway and our relationship with the community growing. With the help of donors like you, we had successfully: secured land, built phase one of the school building, engaged community leaders, started to identify likeminded educators and selected potential students. Unfortunately, everything came to a halt when the Ebola epidemic emerged. Sierra Leone was sent into turmoil, the government ordered the closure of all schools and business to reduce the transmission of the disease. In the presence of this national crisis, HAFG refocused our efforts to address the immediate needs of our local community. We worked with community leaders to educate surrounding villages on hygiene and disease prevention while providing necessary supplies.

2016: As the health crisis started to improve, we resumed construction, re-established communications with local elementary schools and recruited staff. Sadly we were unable to reorganize in time for a September 2016 opening. The disappointment among our team was palpable. The Ebola crisis had created even more vulnerable young women, leaving many without financial and emotional support. The need for HAFG was stronger than ever, so we continued to fundraise, lay bricks, develop resources and network. It has been a long and eventful road, but the destination has always been too valuable to abandon.

2017: It is with enormous excitement and pride that we announce that Hope Academy for Girls officially opened its doors on 18th September 2017 to our first cohort of 25 girls! The girls are happy to have the opportunity to be a part of a school community that provides both academic support and life skills. We are thrilled to be providing opportunities for Sierra Leone’s future generation.

We would like to see every one of these students through the entire academic year and for that, we need your help! All funds from this campaign will go towards paying school fees for the students (Le3,000,000 per school year), purchase of books, stationary and other learning materials, as well as to provide daily meals for the students and staff.

Over the last few weeks, the girls were blessed to receive a few guests who gave them messages of encouragement and inspiration. Thank you Mr. Sankoh and Mr. Paul from Lions Denmark.

Thank you also Mr. Fahad for speaking to the girls about your career as a senior construction engineer.

We look forward to hosting more guests from far and near so as to expose the girls to individuals from all industries and regions of the world.
