Houry Gebeshian to the Olympics!

Hi everyone! My name is Houry Gebeshian and I have made history by becoming the FIRST female gymnast to represent the Republic of Armenia in the Olympic Games! I am a proud Armenian-American and lifelong gymnastics enthusiast and I’ve always had the dream of competing in the Olympics. In honor of my heritage, and at age 26, that dream can now become a reality.  I will be competing in this summer's Olympic Games!

Not only am I an elite gymnast, but I also work as a physician assistant for the Cleveland Clinic. I work full-time in order to pay for the costs associated with making my dream a reality.  Unfortunately, the Armenian Gymnastics Federation is terribly underfunded and cannot support a women’s team.  However, I am hoping to change this.

I am setting up this fundraiser to help create and fund an Armenian Women's Gymnastics program.  Through this process I have realized how much of a financial burden it truly is.  I have spent over $12,000 since making my return back to gymnastics in July 2014.  The money has gone to my competition fees, travel expenses, leotards, and grips, just to name a few things.  By helping me achieve my goal, we can continue to develop this budding program, and ensure our team’s presence as a legitimate contender in the international gymnastics scene.

My motto is that it is never too late to deliver a dream.  I am 26 years old, coaching myself, and funding myself, in order to make my dream a reality.  I encourage any one that has ever had a dream to go for it!

I would love for you all to join me on my journey!  The Olympics are only a couple months away!  Click Here To View My Story  or follow me on:

Congratulations on your stellar performance in Rio! I am very impressed with your goal to support women's gymnasts in Armenia. The President's answer is not good enough. Armenia has a long way to go to support women's athletics and women's rights. You made a strong statement in Rio. Thank you!!

Houry, you are awesome! I went through this back in 2002 when we competed in bobsled during the Winter Games, and I remember the struggle to just get from competition to competition. Great job in being a rep for Armenia (loved your Ararat emblazoned uniform!) You're setting a great example!
