On Halloween, Hamilton By-Law Enforcement issued a notice "not to feed" the feral cats that reside on Napier Street (between Hess and Queen) under penalty of a $10,000 fine. To circumvent this, we took the necessary steps to become a registered feral cat community with the HBSPCA’s 'Trap, Neuter & Return Program'. And have raised over $1000 to move forward with trapping, neutering and releasing our four-legged friends (which will start on the 13th of November).

With temporary shelter now in place, our second step forward is creating a permanent shelter before the cold, harsh winter hits. And it's hard to plan when you don't know what your budget is. Which is why we've set our goal to a (relatively) modest $500.

But we're hoping you share our dream of something a little loftier for our four-legged friends. We want to set an example of what can be done to control and care for the feral cat population in such a tightly-knit community such as ours. And we see more of a home sweet home than a shelter. Something that blends in with the neighbourhood, is not an eye-sore to the neighbours, and looks aesthetically pleasing in all the pictures and videos we plan to share with you in the future.

Any extra money we raise and don't use for the shelter will be split and donated to both the HBSPCA and The Pride Rescue, who've been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals. Remember that no amount is too small. And if you can't afford to donate, you can certainly make a difference by simply sharing.

And do visit, like and share our community page on Facebook . Where we'll be documenting and sharing our progress every step of the way.

The Napier Street Cat Community is an HBSPCA-approved feral cat colony in downtown Hamilton. We do TNR and provide TLC to 25+ feral cats.

If you have any questions or concerns , please don't hesitate to contact us.

Note: We are currently experimenting with different sized temporary shelters to see what the cats gravitate to more. As it stands our plan isn't to build one structure, but a number of small structures that are easy to move for all the gangs to have their own turf (if they so desire). And of course they need to be easy to clean and maintain. We're open to comments and suggestions from the community, and will be waiting to finalize our plans until we've consulted all the right people. Are you one? Get in touch! School us!
