Home Burglarized & Business Lost

$22,135 of $15,000 goal

Raised by 351 people in 15 months
Our friend, Jung Sook (owner of Henry’s Gallery Cafe at 17th and Franklin Street in Oakland) had his apartment burglarized on June 16th during broad daylight. The thieves took everything: money, appliances, passports, down to the dishes. Jung and his wife, like many immigrants, did not keep their money in banks, and did not have insurance. His entire savings, including tuition for his son’s final year in college, is gone.

In addition to the devastating burglary of his home, Jung is being forced to close his business, Henry’s Gallery Cafe, because the landlord will not renew his lease after 10 years (to make way for a more upscale client in this increasingly gentrified area of Oakland).

While nothing can help with the feeling of victimization and loss, any donation is extremely appreciated and will go towards Jung’s son’s college tuition and helping Jung and his family get back on their feet.

Thank you!

Hello!

Jung Sook and his wife are settled into their new location at The Big Cheese, 2194 Edison Ave, San Leandro, CA (near the Oakland Airport, Kaiser San Leandro and the Costco on Davis Street). Business is a little slower than on Franklin Street in Oakland, but the restaurant is open Saturdays and they are available for catering. I'm sure they would be delighted to see familiar faces and former customers!

There was recently an article in the East Bay Express about Beauty's Bagels and Henry's Gallery Cafe:
https://www.eastbayexpress.com/WhatTheFork/archives/2018/09/11/beautys-bagel-shop-to-open-second-oakland-location

Thank you again for your generosity and help with Jung and his family! They appreciate your support!
