Put the Kingadore back together!
Sunday morning at about 1:30 AM, a drunk driver entered the freeway from the wrong direction and ran into a dear friend of mine.
Brandon Abernathy (Abby) was thrown from his jeep, and suffered multiple compound fractures/injuries to his legs, arms, hands, chest, feet, and head. He will most certainly be in the hospital for several weeks, if not months, and the vehicle (the only working vehicle in his family) is totalled.
This money is going to be used to purchase a used vehicle for his wife Stacey Cope, to allow her to take care of their house, their daughter, and him, while also making due on rent, food, and other essentials while waiting for insurance, and lawyers to do their thing.
Please, give whatever you can, even if its just $5, anything will help, and that would put gas in a tank to go see him.
Thank you for your time, and wishes, I will be updating this with news as it comes.
Apparently when Abby was struck and he developed the brain bleed it was the result of a "TBI", or Traumatic Brain Injury. Unfortunately in this particular case it was more severe that we had first hoped, and I have been told he has a class 4 brain injury.
What this means is that he is very confused, and has a very difficult time understanding or being understood. He almost speaks in riddles because his mind is attempting to reroute its neural pathways to overcome the damage, and chaos.
There is good news however, he is making progress daily and responding well to therapy. We are all hoping that he will make a full recovery, but it is beginning to look like this will be an even longer road.
Please share this story once or twice a week, the more people who see it the more awareness can be spread about the consequences we can wreck upon our fellow human beings. Perhaps it will stop one of your friends from driving plastered.
First, these will probably be coming a little slower now that the majority of the intensive things are out of the way.
Second, Abby has regained consciousness... to a degree. He recognizes close friends and family, but ascribes different names to them. Its almost as if he is very deeply inebriated (which of course he is due to the heavy painkillers hes on). He understands commands, and can hold a rather strange, difficult to understand conversation.
Overall it looks like he is mostly out of the woods, and we all couldn't be happier for the support that we have received. THANK YOU ALL!
