Help Tai Walk Again.

$110,968 of $100,000 goal

Tai Martin-Page aged 27, moved to Darwin 6 months ago from South Australia to pursue his dream in Football. Everything seemed to be on the up for him from the minute he got there; he joined the Darwin Buffaloes team and recently got signed to the NT Thunder and was over the moon with excitement that everything was working out.

Tai is a dedicated and passionate football player if he wasn’t training or playing in a footy game he was coaching the younger kids’ football and helping out when and where he could in the football community.

However Saturday 6th Jan 2018, Tai endured a horrific accident 2 minutes into a game Buffaloes V's Wanderers. Tai had endured a hard hit leaving him with dislocated vertebrae in two places and damage to his spinal cord. He was immediately taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital from which they flew him to Perth to undergo surgery.  Tai is currently paralysed from the chest down and no movement/feeling in his fingers.

Unfortunately the surgeon and doctors cannot give us certainty if Tai will ever be able to walk again but what we do know, to get there is a long road ahead. We are still unsure of the degree of damage to his spinal cord and he is still currently in ICU eagerly waiting to move into the spinal rehab unit.

We are all very hopeful for Tai to regain more function throughout his body but at this moment it is still the very early stages. Unfortunately the medical costs don’t come cheap, especially spinal care and rehabilitation which is one of the most expensive in the medical field. All money raised will go towards assisting with medical costs and ongoing treatment. Due to Tai not being treated in his home state, it will also help his family with travel and accommodation costs.

The amount of support and love for Tai is absolutely overwhelming and its times like these that really pull communities together. We have been truly touched by the stories of how quickly Tai makes a positive impact on people’s lives and anyone who knows him knows he is ‘Mr Positivity’ and that he will rise to the challenge.

So many of you have asked how you are able to help and have offered so much already, however if you would like to help towards Tai’s recovery any small gesture will be greatly appreciated and a huge impact for the family to get him there.

Thank you so much for your kind words and generosity - lets literally help Tai get back on his feet!

Any small help can ease the financial pressure at this hard time.

Thank You
Rachael Norman
(Partner of Jay Martin-Page  - Brother of Tai)

Hi everyone! It has been a little while since we last updated you with Tai’s progress and would love to keep you in the loop.

Currently Tai’s injury remains the same with no movement below the chest however, slight movement and feeling has started to show in a few of his fingers. It is just over the 12-week mark since the accident which is when the doctors advised the bruising and swelling would start to go down and improvements will show.

February was a big month for Tai - Moving into the Hampstead Rehabilitation in Adelaide from Perth. Tai now has his own room and privacy which is great and is never shy of visitors passing by to see how he’s going! He had a few ups and downs sickness wise but is now back to his healthy self and focusing on his rehab.

Tai had his first proper outing with his Brother Jay and a few friends in his new wheelchair and recently Tai was able to fly up to Darwin himself to watch the Buffaloes in their grand final which was a huge step forward, even though the doctors were nervous about letting him go due to his injury. Tai overcame it all with great determination and support from everyone involved in getting him up there!

As it stands Tai’s current situation remains the same however, we are hopeful that now, with further rehab more progression will come. We’re really proud of Tai pushing to do as much as he can independently and getting through challenging moments, even when the odds have been against him his determination has shown through and through and we have no doubt in our minds he will get there.

Thank you to everyone who Is still donating the family are truly grateful for all your help! All the money raised has helped his mum get the best treatment and care for Tai as well as taking any financial pressure away during this hard time.

We will be traveling down to Adelaide this weekend to celebrate Tai’s Birthday, we will keep you updated with any news and updates when we can.

Again, a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We couldn’t have got Tai to where he is without all your help.

Hey Everyone,

Once more I would like to thank you all for the generous heartfelt donations! We are now sitting on $87,000.00 which means only $11,925.00 to reach target! How amazing is that! We are extremely grateful and could not have got Tai to where he is without your help! Your ongoing support is enormously appreciated and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Reflecting over the past few weeks, Tai has spent his time recovering at the Royal Perth Hospital after his accident. There have been up’s and down’s but through it all Tai remained his usual positive self – with a determined mindset, taking each day as it comes. His situation still remains the same with no movement or feeling in his hands or below the chest however, he did regain slight feeling in one of his right fingers! He is constantly practising movements shown by the physio’s in hope to regain function but it is still the early stages and his body is still recovering from the trauma endured.

As some of you may know, Perth is not Tai’s home state and although the team in the Royal Perth Hospital have been taking good care of Tai, he is over the moon to be on home soil and get stuck into his rehab.

To fly Tai from Perth to Adelaide with all the medical assistance cost $25,725.00 and without your help through the GoFundMe we could never have got him home so quickly! The life flight team were absolutely outstanding and the family can't thank them enough for the amazing service they provided to get Tai home safely.

These types of costs are just the tip of what Tai will be facing and thanks to everyone’s donations this will ease the financial pressure for him and the family.

We only have $11,925.00 to reach target and as you can see, every little does really help! Please help by donating and sharing his story and get behind him – YOU GOT THIS TAI <3

Hey Everyone,

Once again a huge Thank You for all the donations so far!! I cannot express how grateful the family are for your kind words and generous hearts! We have just under $15,000 left to reach target so please please keep showing your support by following the link <3

After visiting Tai for myself this weekend - it's truly inspiring to see that despite his situation, his positive attitude and mindset is shining through! What a fighter hey! I was able read everyone's get well wishes to him and he was over the moon hearing them! Tai was also able to successfully use his new IPad by strapping the stylus pen to his wrist.

The biggest achievement over the weekend was that Tai started to regain slight feeling in one of his right fingers!! - Safe to say happiness levels were through the roof when this happened!

His situation at present remains the same with no movement or feeling below the chest however he has been practicing some exercises advised by the physio's to hopefully build back some movement in his hands! He is currently still in Perth on the spinal ward and has promising news that he will be transferred to Adelaide in the forth coming weeks!

It has been a very busy weekend filled with lots of visitors supporting Tai, ensuring he has all the love and support to get him through this tough time! As I have previously said it is still the very early stages of his recovery but I have every faith he will get there!

On another side note just a little shout out to Bridgit, Jay, Shae and family - what a wonderful support system you guys are! You are all beautiful people inside and out.

Lets keep up the support and continue to get behind him <3
