As many of you know on Wednesday Braxton was readmitted to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus. This was very unexpected as we originally were just coming for a routine follow up appointment.
At our appointment the neurologist informed us that Braxton both physically and mentally is not progressing as he should be and does not feel that
it is safe for him to be at home.
When Braxton was released from the hospital about a month ago he was in the 6th percentile for both weight and height, however he has decreased and is now know longer on the charts. This is a major concern and we will not be able to be discharged until we are able to ensure Braxton is able to continue proper weight gain. Braxton has began aspirating during feeds, so at the moment we have stopped all feeds by mouth and will substitute with the feeding tube until more testing is done.
Besides Braxton's feeding issues we also found out through his MRI and EEG that he is having
abnormal brain functioning and his brain waves are inconsistent when compared to a typical same-age baby. We are conducting more tests and examinations however it may take several weeks before we have any results and at the moment we are not sure how this will affect Braxton's future and his overall mental development.
I was originally planning on returning to work a week from Monday, however due to Braxton's medical condition and after consulting with his team of doctors they do not feel that after discharge it will be safe for Braxton to be in the care of someone else and we feel it will be in Braxton's best interest if I do not return to work at the moment and stay home and care for him.
Being in the hospital and having to travel so far from home is really starting to put a financial burden on our family. We also are having to make adjustments as we begin to transition to a single family income. We first would like to ask everyone if they could continue with their many prayers for Braxton, and we also are asking for any type of financial help as we continue through this difficult time.
I also want to make sure I thank everyone with their many prayers, phone calls, and support. This has meant a lot to Tory and I and we are very appreciate of the love and support we have from our family and friends.
