News Story:

Our Mainspring Family Testimonials:     Hello! We wanted to share the story of our incredible school with you all.

Mainspring Academy is a 501c3 non profit private special needs school in the Southside Jacksonville area. We serve 54 students ages 5-22 with varying special needs, and 22 staff. Early this February, our entire staff and the parents of our school were notified by our Board of Directors that our non profit which has been around for years, would be dissolved by May, due to financial constraints. This leaves every single student and staff member displaced.

Many of our students and staff grew up here for 6+ years. Many of them have had the same teachers for those years. With the special needs that our children have, changing schools and having to leave teachers and environments that are familiar to them, is an entire lifestyle change. Mainspring is unique. Most of our parents have toured elsewhere and cannot find services comparable to what we offer. We serve children with varying special needs, from lower to higher need. These parents have tried other schools and some have even not been welcome to other programs because of disability-related behaviors and extra support needs.

On Monday, February 25th, our Board held an open meeting announcing that several of our passionate parents had approached them asking them to reconsider. They obliged, announcing a bold capital campaign to raise $150,000 by May to move to a building we are trying to secure (since another school will be occupying our building after May) and $500,000 dollars by next year. A few of those parents have even become our newest board members. We are incredibly lucky to have this incredible support of our families. Our parents feel there is no safer, more nurturing environment than Mainspring Academy and were willing to rally together to take action and help our vision stay alive.

Several News outlets have covered our story of the passionate parents who believe so hard in our school that they refuse to take no for an answer, including the Florida Times Union, Action News, News 4 Jax and WJXT,  to raise awareness of our campaign. Please find it in your hearts to help us continue having our family together here at Mainspring Academy.

Our goal is to raise the $160,000 by May 2019 and $500,000 by May 2020. Mainspring Academy is a 501c3 nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. If we do not receive the funding and the campaign is not successful, we assure that all funds will be returned via the GoFundMe platform.

If you wish to send in a check instead, please make it out to Mainspring Academy and mail to 6867 Southpoint Dr N, Suite 103, Jacksonville, FL 32216.

With love and respect.
