My name is Savanna and I am a senior earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Colorado State University. During the Spring 2017 semester I have the incredible opportunity to travel to eleven countries on a voyage with the CSU Semester at Sea (SAS) program if I can fund it. I would be able to experience the culture, land, and humanity of Honolulu Hawaii-United States, Kobe-Japan, Shangai-China, Ho Chi Minh City-Viet Nam, Yangon-Myanmar (Burma), Cochin-India, Port Louis Harbour-Mauritius, Cape Town-South Africa, Tema Harbour-Ghana, Casablanca-Morocco, & Hamburg-Germany.
This is a once in a lifetime experience and I really need your help. I am passionate about gaining a worldly perspective and I am doing everything I can to make it possible. Despite applying for financial aid, scholarships, and working throughout school to earn money for this trip, I am only a third of the way to paying the full tuition cost of $30,000 (which is due at the beginning of November). I would be incredibly thankful for any contribution you are able to make to help me reach my goal.
This will be my last semester of college to gain experience before I graduate and go on to make an impact on the world. I need to raise money to afford the initial tuition cost, cover some of my travel expenses, and limit my educational debt. Funds beyond what I use for tuition would allow me to explore and interact with individuals at the ports in each country and to supplement the field excursions led by SAS. These excursions facilitate direct relationships with locals, provide hands-on learning, and implement service projects in the communities I would visit.
Your donation would help me make the most of my time in each port and allow me to give back to those communities. With my psychology background I am especially interested in humanitarian efforts to empower women and girls, as well as environmental clean up projects that would improve their living conditions.
This experience is important to me because I have a yearning to understand the world and it would foster a perspective that not many students receive. SAS would provide me with a unique appreciation of various cultures and the personal struggles individuals face. The things I would see and participate in would directly influence how I approach my professional and personal life. If I am able to go, this new global perspective will help me find a meaningful direction for my life and teach me how to make the most impact on the lives of others.
