Dave's Medical Expenses
$12,805 of $12,805 goal
Please allow me to introduce my brother, Dave Newblom. Dave is an awesome, funny, and caring man, son and brother. Last week he wasn't feeling well and thought he had the flu. After a few days, his girlfriend found him at home, unable to breath. She took him to urgent care and he was immediately admitted to the hospital. He is now in the ICU battling legionella pneumonia in both lungs and sepsis throughout his entire body. While our family and the doctors are optimistic he will have a full recovery, he has a long road ahead of him. Under his health insurance, he is required to pay 30% of the total medical bills. As of today, March 10, 2017, he has been in the ICU for 9 days, and remains sedated as his lungs are not yet ready to function on their own. As such, I can only imagine the potential cost he is facing. Please consider helping my brother by donating, sharing, or both. All donations will go to his medical, rehab and living expenses. Thank you in advance and please keep the love, positive vibes and prayers flowing.
"We are so proud of how Dave is progressing. Care Meridian will be releasing him to come home with us on Friday, May 26th. He still has some recuperating to do, but is walking farther every day with and without his walker. He has been in the hospital since March 1st. He will still be on oxygen for a while, but they think he is doing great. If you know of anyone that has a wheel chair they would like to get rid of, please let us know as he will need it for going places where there is a great deal of walking, like church, ball games, concerts etc. This has truly been a miracle. Thanks for all the prayers, love, concern and financial support from his many relatives and friends and a special thanks to Carrie who saved his life by getting him to the hospital just in time, and has stayed by his side throughout his sickness."
Dave is kicking more booty! He just moved to CareMeridian Rehabilitation Hospital where he will start physical therapy, occupational therapy and more...next stop, Home!! So Proud of all he has accomplished the past couple of weeks! Off the Vent, No more Tracheostomy, Clear Headed, Off most medications, completely off all sedatives, starting to walk and his amazing wit is still going strong! Typing is still a bit of a pain in the butt...hence my update rather than his, but it will be coming soon!
Visitors are welcome and if you haven't seen him for a while or only saw him when he was in the ICU...you will be floored! My guy is back! Now he's getting back on his feet. He is one of the strongest people I know!
Quoting David "I am the Bon Jovi of ARDS!!"
"To everyone who has supported Dave on his journey to get well. Don't let anyone tell you that prayers don't work. God has worked a miracle in Dave. Thank you for your support.
Dave is weening off the ventilator. He has been off since yesterday morning. They told us that if he can stay off of it one more day, they will take him completely off the ventilator. He can talk and today they took him for a swallow test. It was his first ride in a wheelchair. He had been getting ice chips, but nothing else by mouth. His swallow test was good, and now he can eat almost anything. They gave him some jello and apple juice. He is on a chopped diet. They will cut his meat up in small pieces for him to make it easier to chew and swallow.
Dave is alert and would welcome visitors. I think you will be pleased to see how far he has come. He is at Porter Hospital, in the Kindred Hospital Unit at 2525 South Downing, on the 3rd floor.
Thank you for your continued support of Dave."
