Help Me Keep Working

Donation protected
This fund is to help me buy a new work computer to replace an aging PC that has been having a number of problems. I am a 30-year-old software engineer by degree, but I currently work as a staff writer at an online news organization and manage a website for a separate entity in my free time. I have three children that I adore and I am really into technology and following tech advancements. I used to be quite good on a skateboard and I love to play and write music on guitar and bass.

As friends and family will already know, I have spent a number of years dealing with an array of problems stemming from an ER visit and hospital stay associated with pneumonia. The complications arose from damage to my lungs that has left me with very poor health and asthma. Additionally, stressful situations that came about at the same time have left me with a severe anxiety disorder that prevents me from doing many things I used to enjoy and resulted in great difficulty in finding work. My battle with pneumonia cost me my previous job because of a lack of understanding or compassion about the condition I was in, which nearly resulted in my death.

The good news is that after years of failure - because of my health problems - in trying at new jobs and trying to get jobs, I finally was able to land the gigs I am currently working at. The pay is not great at either, with my website management pay being an order of magnitude lower than the industry standard and the other being a job that doesn't pay well under the best of circumstances. The stress associated with both of the jobs is also very high, but it is something I can do and do reasonably well. I initially took the jobs as a way to have extra money and to rid myself of the feeling that I was viewed as something of a bum, but my fiance was laid off shortly after I obtained the job as a writer - making it more of a necessity.

Unfortunately, the computer I depend on to complete tasks for the new jobs has started crashing at random intervals and there seems to be a problem across several of my components. My background in IT tells me, after trying many solutions, that it's just time to buy a new machine. But I really don't have the money for that right now because of the abovementioned layoff.

The stress that has been added because of worries about whether I'll be able to complete a task once I've started - and both jobs have deadlines that must be adhered to once started on a task - have made working a complete nightmare and the situation could ultimately cost me both. To make matters worse, I have always had a desire to work in the field that one of my new jobs is in. It ranks very high on my list of dream jobs that I have wanted to try since I was very young.

I really hate to have to ask for help to overcome the current situation, but I am left at an impasse if I do not. The reason the amount is so high is because I would like to pick up something that can last more than a couple of years, that also has some portability. Portability would also serve to alleviate some of the stress associated with the jobs but is often more expensive.

It would mean absolutely everything to me to be able to continue working. It has been exceptionally painful to watch my family struggle paycheck to paycheck without my added support, and I am sure it has also made my health worse. I have no way to thank those of you who are reading this for even taking the time to consider my Go Fund Me campaign. Any amount donated will be genuinely appreciated beyond measure and if I do manage to raise enough, I will never forget the kindness. I really just want to be able to continue working and supporting my family.

To give you an idea of the work I am doing and that you'll be helping me to continue doing by contributing. I am including links to my author's page at my writing job and to the website I currently manage.
