Frankenfoot strikes again!
Frankenfoot strikes again or love in the time of Diabetes: a story in need of a happy ending.
Dearest Reader
Thank you for your kindness and for taking a moment to take in our tale of terrible luck and foot infections.
But first let me introduce you to our family of sorta super heroes.
Momlady (Bernice Olivas) who has the power of persistence and multitasking. Momlady dropped out of high school in the 9th grade, bounced around for a few years learning a few things--mostly the "what NOT to do's" of life, eventually got her GED and then met and married the Daddyman (Logan Carraway) who has the power of support, patience, and music.
Momlady and Daddy man were plain, uninteresting Bernice and Logan until Dangerbaby came into their lives in 2014 and Destructo Boy came into their livesin 2006. Becoming Momlady conviced Bernice that she should go back to school and be a much better example to him. So she enrolled when he was six months old.
Dangerbaby and Destructo Boy are an awesomely autistic duo. Autism is their cover and their superpower. The tricksy twosome diligently stand against evil corporate babies who want to babyproof the whole wide world and make everything neat, safe, and educational. Through contact with the Danger Duo Bernice and Logan were transformed into Momlady and Daddy Man.
(Danger Baby 2004)
Over the last twelve years our super heroes have faced many terrible trials
—McNair Syndrome(in which Momlady became a McNair scholar, decided to continue on to get her PhD. She became super busy Momlady and and received her BA in 2010. She was accepted to graduate school in Lincoln NE.
—The great crash of 2008 (in which the Daddymans company went out of business and and Daddyman began learning to become the best stay at home dad ever. This was a very messy time. Very mess as Destructo Boy was just beginning to dabble in biochemical weaponry and Dangerbaby was learning lock picking.)
—The great U-Haul fire of 2010 (in which a villain set stole, and then fire to our U-Haul and every thing he didn’t take, upon the very first day in Lincoln NE)
Daddy Man and Destructo Boy 2016
—Grad School (in which the MomLady was struck with madness for six years until she was cured with the power of obtaining her PhD)
(Momlady)
—THE NORMALIZER (in which the total lack of Autism services in Nebraska, an undereducated CPS agent, and the treat of forced compliance training separated the family for three years. Daddyman and the Duo moved to Idaho while Momlady continued her Grad school battle.)
The Danger Duo 2017
But together and with so so much help from friends and family they survived them all.
Unfortunately there is one villain that the family cannot seem to beat.
DIABETES and NO INSURANCE!
Diabetes struck the Daddyman many years ago and continues to plague him.
Five years ago, an infection in his hand cost him part of his pointer finger and much of the mobility in his hand. It also cost him some of his super power of music.
Then Neuropathy struck, forcing Daddyman to live with constant pain in the deep tissue of his hands and feet while also causing him to stop feeling sensation on the surface of his feet. This made many things very hard. The Daddyman conquered them all and continues to be a ferocious tickle monster.
Finally, last summer he accidently burned his toes in a camp fire and one toe got a raging infection which lead to the birth of (dum, dum, dum)
FrankenFOOT!
The Daddyman lost his big toe to diabetes.
Now Frankenfoot has returned.
Daddyman has a foot ulcer on his other big toe. He will be admitted into St. Lukes this week. His doctor thinks it is a bone infection. If it is a bone infection then he may lose this toe too. Unfortunately, without insurance it is nearly impossible to get him the care he needs.
Our super heroes are stretched too thin. We haven’t recovered from Frankenfoot’s last attack.
We are still trying to recover the DaddyMan’s MUSIC—his guitars and amps—that he pawned to help the family survive ($2,000).
Now he will need:
An MRI –600$ out of pocket
Several days of intravenous antibiotics $200--$400 per round
Surgery if the antibiotics won’t work
Follow up wound care.
Meanwhile Momlady must keep the household running on a shoestring budget in the summer, when she is most vulnerable because she doesn’t teach in the summer and because the awesomely autistic duo is home full time which makes it hard to find extra work.
Our sorta super heroes are hanging off a financial cliff
WILL THEY FALL?
WILL RESCUE COME IN TIME?
To be continued…
(Thank you, dear reader, for all your kindness)
