Disabled Veteran Could Lose Home!

BELOVED GRANDPARENTS MAY LOSE THEIR HOME

My grandfather is an 81-year old disabled Army veteran who requires home care, is unable to work and receives currently receives a monthly pension that barely covers their obligations. To avoid the costs of outside care services, my 75-year old grandmother dedicates her days to tending to his needs. After running a successful business for over 15 years and volunteering in their community for over 30 years, they are facing the realization that times are rapidly changing and they desperately need help.

Their financial strains began after a much-needed surgery for my grandfather, who had a recent 1-week stay at their local hospital for heart failure. He has since been released back into the care of my grandmother, but they are now in need of home nurses. Everday necessities like groceries and vehicle maintenance must take a backseat to maintaining their home payments to avoid foreclosure, and seeking affordable home aides. Fluid in the lungs as well as advanced sleep apnea means my grandfather also must now use an oxygen machine 24 hours a day. Alongside their mortgage, they must maintain a minimum utility balance with their electrical company that may be up to $500 monthly. Especially in winter months, losing connection to their electricity can literally mean life or death for him.

As we desperately petition for additional help from Veterans Services and Social Security, we chose to share their story with the online community. Seeing my grandparents as pillars of their community in volunteer, business, and political circles, their pride won't allow them admit just how difficult their current situation really is. I am hopeful that someone is as inspired by them as I am, and can spread the kindness that I've watched them instill in others since I was a child.

Our family is continuing to do our best to support them, though we are working class people with humble means living in different areas along the east coast. We pray that the more our story is shared, we can reach our goal and keep our family home.

We are sending personal thank-yous to anyone able to help, but simply sharing this story is enough and we appreciate every bit of good wishes sent our way. If you'd like more information about my grandfather's status, I am happy to provide contact information at any time. We thank all you all for your time &  kindness!
