Help Rebecca Schofield Fight Cancer
I have maintained facebook silence for the past couple of days because the news we received on Friday was not good, and our family needed time to process the information and to tell the people that are the closes to us. On Friday we received the results of the MRI and they found 2 new tumors with indication of possibly more to come. These tumors are not the cause of Becca's nausea and are not in the same place as butterscotch was. Unfortunately they can not be operated on. What this means for Becca if she chooses to they can offer treatment to extend life but it will not cure her cancer. We have been given a approximate time frame of 3 months to possibly a year maybe a bit more. It will all depend on how fast they grow, how many more show up and our option for treatment. This was as much of a shock to the doctors as to us as they were sure we were in the clear. They are putting together a plan that we will talk about over the next few days. In a previous post Darren called Rebecca his hero. She is also my hero but she is also so much more she is my heart, she is in my every breath and my every thought my girls are the center of my world. We are crushed beyond imagination that our beautiful strong superhero will not win her battle with this horrible disease. Both Darren and I are taking leave from work Gabrielle will take the next semester off of school. We plan to do the most of the time we have together. We will take everyday as the gift that it is and fill it with love and laughter. She has taken this news with her usual grace and strength her immediately concern was for the people she would be leaving behind. She is writing a bucket list and we plan to help her fill as many wish as we can. We will continue on this journey as we started it with positivity and humor. We will continue to focus on what we can control and letting go of what we can't. When she is ready she will post on Becca's Battle with Butterscotch. The last two days her nausea has been more under control and she has been able to eat a little. We hope to bring her home soon so we can have a family Christmas together.
So our week so far has been pretty good. Becca is starting to get an appetite back and eating small meals. Only needed blizzards assistance a couple of time. We got to spend some time at the cottage to celebrate Gabrielle's birthday. The change of scenery did us all some good. Becca's friend Alex came to " Becca sit " so I could go out and work they had a great time catching up. We got the phone call yesterday and on Monday a new stage of our recovery adventure begins. We are going to Fredericton to the Stan Cassidy rehab center. We will meet with doctors and physio therapist they will evaluate her and see if there facility is a good match for her. If all goes well I will be leaving her there as an in-patient 5 days a week home on weekends for possible 4 to 6 weeks. I am excited to see her moving forward in her recovery and regaining some independence. I am also a bit emotional about leaving her as I can't stay with her due to work obligations (they have this rule that if you don't work you don't get paid) . I will miss her but we all believe this is the best thing moving forward. As always focusing on what we can control and letting go of what we can't.So they need help with moving forward and 2 trips per week to Fredericton. Thanks so much to everyone who has helped.

So sorry to hear of this news... Heartbreaking for you all. I was asked to pass on this message for you from a friend who is a paramedic: If you know her or the family please tell them to get a second opinion from Dr Petrecca in Montreal. He's a neuro oncologist that is working on a project with McGill university to produce a device that can detect cancer in cells in 2 seconds thst they can use during surgery to remove all the cancer cells & leave the healthy brain tissue intact. My friend was diagnosed with a MASSIVE brain tumour (half the size of his brain). NB neurosurgeons said it was inoperable go enjoy whatever time you have left. Dr Petrecca said no problem; we can get that with 90% probability of being cancer free & seeing g his young daughters graduate (one just started school, the other in kindergarten)
So sorry to hear of this news. I am a mother of a brain tumor survivor and know first hand how heartbreaking it is for all. Have you considered trying going on the natural path? I have watched documents on cancer patients with no options available for treatment for them. They decided to try the natural alternative. Some are now 10-12 years survivors. To think they were told by doctors there was no treatment for them. There is always HOPE. Some of these patients tried juicing (please look it up), essential oils and spices such as Frankincense, Mur, Tumeric and others. The documentary I watched was The Truth About Cancer. It was very inspiring to see these patients win their battle with cancer with natural ingredients, not harsh chemicals. May God Bless you all and I truly hope Becca will come out a survivor for many years to come.
We are simply overwhelmed by the support we are getting. We would like to thank everyone for their help, prayers and well-wishes. A huge thank you to Joy Kelly for setting up this fundraiser for Becca,it is one less thing to worry about. As we have watched the names roll by,it is triggering happy memories of friends, family, coworkers, school friends, sporting contacts(so glad the girls played ringette so we could all meet such great people) as well as the friends of friend.Thank you all from 2 very grateful parents, Darren and Anne Schofield.
Hi Rebecca, I am someone who's gone through some hard times and has had brain problems too. I'm sorry to hear your not doing well. Please just enjoy each moment of every day that God gives to you, however much that adds up to each day. Don't get frustrated by what can't happen. Just squeeze every drop out of what you do get. That's where the happiness comes from. And, most of all, I want you and your family to have the most beautiful, amazing, happiest moments together now. So, we didn't get the brains we wanted...or expected... that doesn't mean we have to miss the party, do we? So, dance, Rebecca, dance in your heart. Time to put your pretty shoes on, turn the music on, and dance. Celebrate your life, with every breath that you take. Rest when you need to, of course. I do that a lot. Just know, that your life is precious, and that you bring great joy to others around you. Oh yeah, Because Becca cares, I stopped complaining about others, asked God to forgive me, and started praying for them instead. Including Donald Trump! Now, imagine if we could make a buck off of every one we could stop complaining about the new US president? We'd be rich! You'll be in my prayers, Becca. Take care...
I want to thank everyone who as donated to our family. The help you have provided as enabled me to stay home with Becca the last 15 months. Now we are happy to report that she is in complete remission. She still suffers from extreme fatique and nausea but that will get better with time. We will focus now on building hwr muscle strenght so she can walk on her own again. I will be returning to work next month as I can no longer afford to stay home and that decision was bittersweet. It shows how far she is in her recovery and will need less time in hospital but she is still not at the point of being able to be left home alone so I will be relying more on others to help with her care. Thank you again for all your help and support.
My prayers and condolences in your journey and complete your bucket list. I too have someone very close going through issues wit leukemia at 4 years old. Twice a week I treat my little man for a lunch date to his favorite pizza place. He is my grandson and my super hero.
