Unwanted, 500 dogs & puppies in pound

£3,067 of £100 goal

There are currently 450-500 dogs and puppies in the local council pound. The chances of most of them ever finding homes is slim.

At FARC (Famagusta Animal Rehoming Canines) our main function is to support the pound and rehome as many of the dogs and puppies as possible.

In addition, when the local council needs items, but simply can't afford them, that's where we step in.

We have fundraised for operating equipment, dog pools, dog beds, medicines, vet bills, toys, bedding etc etc. Without the help of our supporters none of this could have been achieved.

It's an ongoing process, so if you would like to help us help these poor incarcerated dogs and puppies, please donate here and say what your contribution is for in the comments? Every penny is spent on enriching the dogs lives in one way or another.

This fundraiser page is a general one for all the needs of the dogs in the pound that FARC help with, so when contributing please indicate what you'd like it to go towards, thanks.

Please also share our page to raise awareness and hopefully gain some more support.

Many thanks from our furry friends.

Hi Everyone,

Update on our neutering and vaccination programme!

The vet has confirmed that all the adult males have now been neutered and its only the male pups which are reaching maturity that are being done now.

Some of the females have been spayed, but not many for a few reasons. The operations take much longer, are much more invasive so post op care needs to be given longer. In addition, we don't have enough funds to finish the female spaying, but will continue to spay as many as the funds will allow the vet to do.

On top of all this, with the outbreak of distemper in Cyprus, all the adult dogs have had to be vaccinated at a cost of £1350 which FARC agreed to pay for as the council do not have the funds for this at this time. It costs the council 30,000TL per month, about £5350 every month in just food for all the dogs. All the other running costs eg salaries, utilities, veterinary care, medicines etc etc are on top of that. This is why we have supported Famagusta Beledeyesi since day one to help make Famagusta Pound the best on the island.

So, it goes without saying, that we really need your help! We have about £400 left from what has already been very kindly donated. To finish spaying the females we need at least a further £3000 for the meds.

So please everyone, share this post, hold a fundraising event, set up a standing order for whatever you can afford, sponsor a dog, donate what you can, it all helps!!!

Our dogs need you!!

Thank you all so much from everyone at FARC and The Famagusta Pound

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to the neutering programme of 400+ dogs at The Famagusta Dog Shelter.

The boys have all been done and the vet is working his way through the 205 girls. They will take longer as more invasive operations, he anticipates being finished by the summer.

This is without a doubt the biggest neutering programme to date in North Cyprus and none of it could have been achieved without you, our FARC supporters.

So again, thank you and please continue to help us by sharing our appeal to help raise the balance of what we need to finish all the neutering!

Well, thanks to all of you we are now nearing completion of neutering all the male dogs! It's taken close to 3 months to get them all done.

Now it's time for the girls, all 205 of them. Neutering a female is a much more invasive operation and requires more intense post op care. As a result we are hoping to raise £3800 for the meds which is about £18 per dog.

So please keep sharing our posts and perhaps consider holding a fundraising event locally or some other way you can think of to help raise the necessary funds for these poor dogs.

Together, we are all helping to break the cycle of dogs mating and producing thousands of unwanted puppies ever year. Thank you so much to each and every one of you who has helped make this happen.

We will keep you updated on the progress as we expect it will take about 5 months to neuter all the females.

Thanks to everyone who has donated we have raised the £750 needed so we can cover the meds for neutering the 200 males.

The total required was actually £1500, but one of our sponsors, Catherine Wood who has sponsored FARC continuously since the beginning, pledged half the amount needed if we raised the rest. So thanks again to everyone.

Now it's time to keep going as we have 200 females to be neutered once all the boys have been done. That's going to be a bit more expensive as they require antibiotics post op, so we are estimating a further £2000.

This is a mammoth project to neither 400 adult dogs, but once it's done, just think if the difference it'll make to those dogs! Hopefully a huge reduction in fighting, we all know what too much testosterone does! No more mating resulting in litters and litters of unwanted puppies with no homes to go to. Adult dogs that will be healthier in general having been neutered. Lastly ultimately less stray unwanted dogs.

So once they are all neutered it's down to the local council to neuter any new arrivals as and when they come in. We agreed to help with the costs to make sure this actually happened, but couldn't do it without your support.

If you want to make a difference and be a part of the biggest neutering programme to date in Cyprus, please make a contribution and help us achieve our goal.

Many thanks in anticipation from everyone in FARC
