Avi and Nancy are having a tough time and need our help. Avi is seriously ill and needs a liver transplant. In the past two years, Avi has been hospitalized over ten times for life-threatening blood infections, the last of which was almost fatal.
Doctors determined that the source of infection is within his liver and that the only solution is a liver transplant. While testing his fitness for the procedure, his doctors discovered that he also needed a triple bypass. Now that the bypass surgery has been successfully completed, he's back to waiting for a liver transplant.
Nancy and Avi are currently living in New Orleans awaiting a transplant at Ochsner Clinic, the top liver transplant hospital in the U.S. Even Nancy's insurance company agreed that Ochsner is the best place for him. The process of waiting for a transplant is agonizing and each day seems infinite. It could easily take 6 months before they are able to go home again.
Avi's medical expenses are not fully covered by insurance. And none of their costs of renting an apartment, a car, and furniture are covered at all. In addition, while living in New Orleans, they have to continue to pay all of the living expenses for their home in San Diego.
Financially, Avi and Nancy are struggling after so many years of incurring almost incomprehensible expenses related to Avi's medical journey. Sometimes, bad things happen that dramatically change our lives literally overnight, and we need our friends and family to help us get through it.
It could happen to any of us. As the song goes, "we're all one phone call from our knees".
Avi and Nancy are in deep need of our financial help. It's never easy to ask for money, but sometimes, there really is no choice. I know how deeply grateful Avi and Nancy are for the help and support.
