Help ACF Animal Rescue Expand it's Shelter

Donation protected

The need is urgent. The time is now.

Why Do We Need Funds:
Our current shelter is over capacity, already housing almost 500 animals. We have expanded and rented the space next door but need to construct room-size grilled cages, quarantine rooms etc as the numbers are growing every second and we don’t want to turn any animal away.

It’s vital to expand our facilities in order to take in more abused and injured animals as animal cruelty and abuse cases are multiplying rapidly. We have educational outreach programmes to teach compassion and empathy towards animals in place as well. However, the need for more space is essential.

We need help. We need you.

Please help us raise enough funds to get construction done in the new area.
The figure we have requested to raise is after acquiring various quotations from contractors and is by far the best one.

Please help us provide a safe sanctuary for homeless, orphaned, injured and abused animals. We need your help.

About ACF:

ACF animal rescue created the first ever animal shelter and animal rescue service in Pakistan in 2013. There was no existing welfare for homeless cats and dogs living on the streets. In fact, animal abuse and animal neglect has been rampant for decades yet nothing has ever been done to counter this massive crime committed by humanity on a large scale.

Dogs are shot multiple times mercilessly and murdered brutally by hiding poison in meat and left on the streets that once Ingested, slowly shuts their organs down one at a time, all the while they are struggling to breathe and gasping for air.

Cats are tortured and shooed away. Cases where boiling water has been thrown on a cat as a joke, or a kitten’s mouth has been sewn shut by barbed wire or a rubber-band is tied around the paw which is then chopped off are just a few instances of animal abuse we have witnessed.

Hit and run cases are a dime a dozen and the animal ends up laying on a street, merging in with the garbage that everyone ignores and dies a slow, painful death.

Pakistan is one of the largest users of donkeys and mules for transport purposes in various industries, yet welfare for equines is almost non-existent.

Donkeys and mules work 12-15 hour days in the scorching heat or blistering cold, only to be beaten and whipped to run faster and work longer. Whether it’s carrying 4000 bricks in a day at a brick kiln with a gaping wound throbbing on his back or whether it’s pulling 2000 tonnes of weight on a cart in the city, balancing on a fractured limb. They work and work and work until they collapse and are discarded in garbage dumps. This is the norm we see everyday.

ACF Animal Rescue is the first to set up a sanctuary for abused and injured street and working animals in Pakistan and the first to bring mass awareness on the urgency of the situation and the injustice that has prevailed for far too long.

Currently, we are based in Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan and the need is growing by the minute.

We receive hundreds of messages and calls on our hotline number daily. We only have one rescue van and rescue Officer and a shelter that has been built only through generous donations of the animal-loving community of Pakistan.

However, the struggle to simply establish ourselves proved to be a difficult and tumultuous journey. Changing mindsets to understand the gravity of animal abuse followed by the unwillingness of people to accept that homeless and working animals deserve rights and deserve to be treated better has been beyond challenging.

We had to move our shelter to 4 different locations in the span of a year, with all our 250+ animals in tow with just a handful of people. We received threats, guns pulled out at our workers, poisoned meat thrown over the gate to kill our dogs, rocks thrown into our windows and so much more. Reason? People found it abysmal that we spent so much time and money and effort looking after ‘dirty’ animals.

After much upheaval and tests of our strength and determination, we have been settled at our current location for 2 years now.

We have rescued over 4000 animals in the past 5 years.

Performed TNR on over 500 animals.

Held over 300 equine medical camps where we provide free medical treatment, food and water to almost a hundred donkeys, mules and horses at a time from the brick kilns in Punjab that are inundated with bonded slave labour to the various industrial and agricultural industries within Karachi.

We created the first ever humane donkey harness that reduces injuries by 80%. The other 20% depends on how the owner treats his animal, diet etc. The harnesses currently in the market are made of terribly tough and course material with nails jammed in the mouth and on the rear of the donkey as the concept people believe is that the more you make a donkey bleed the more he will work.

We are now not only providing medical welfare for working animals but also helping donkey-owners become self-sustainable by teaching them how to make humane harnesses out of non-recyclable materials such as plastic bags and ghost net that kills marine life, thereby reducing the plastic footprint and tending to the environment and oceans as well.

Donkey behaviour training and para-vets and proper cart design are also part of our programme. However, due to the extreme poverty people are immersed in, most working equines are usually weak, Injured and unwell from when they are born and after working their whole lives, are just abandoned. They have nowhere to go. Neither do dogs and cats or injured kites.

We are the only ones who lift up their emaciated, tortured bodies and hopeless, broken souls to give them a second chance at a good life.

We are only fully functioning shelter that provides a round the clock medical treatment, blankets, heaters, the best food twice a day, treats, baths, grooming, walks, behaviour issue and rehabilitation services and general well being and safe space for these animals to call their home. Whilst simultaneously, working on outreach projects and legislation to better our country and curb animal abuse.
