Fund Harlem Liberation School!
Hello! I am Agyei Tyehimba , the Founder and Director of Harlem Liberation School . The United States' public and private school systems do not adequately prepare Black people to be leaders and problem-solvers for ourselves. If we want to learn the information and skills we need to be empowered, WE must provide it. Harlem Liberation School was created to meet this important need.
We are a Black community learning center providing workshops, panel discussions, lectures and events teaching history, political education, consciousness and community organizing skills. We provide a space for open and informed political discussion in our Harlem, NY. We teach and equip the Black community to "Wake up, Clean up, and Stand up!"
We have hosted a number of free empowering programs including:
-A panel discussion on domestic violence featuring women who were survivors and advocates.
-A presentation concerning the origins and importance of Black or Africana Studies.
-A discussion of patriarchy and gender issues in our community.
-A discussion of Black women as leaders & voices of resistance.
-A workshop teaching our people important emergency preparedness knowledge and skills.
-A presentation and book signing by award-winning NYC television news personality and author Cheryl Wills.
-An African-centered education lecture and book signing by internationally-acclaimed educator and historian Professor Kaba Kamene
-A presentation on creating Rites of Passage programs for youth by educator, consultant, and Rites of Initiation expert Kamau Ptah
And a host of other programs exploring emergency preparedness, police misconduct, issues of gender/patriarchy, African Centered education, Open mic poetry, the role of Community Boards, the ideas and ideology of Malcolm X, and much more!
We appeal to our community for a sum of $2000. We need this amount of funding for 3 purposes: 1. To purchase important supplies andto make thousands of high-quality postcard-sized fliers to help us promote our organization and events. 2. To establish a small budget to provide refreshments to those who attend our meetings/events. 3. To establish a budget to provide small stipends to those community members who volunteer to facilitate workshops or provide presentations.
We appreciate any amount you can donate, and will keep you updated as this campaign goes forward. Thank you!
Today we received our 5th donation! We are truly appreciative of our community for having our back!
