HBRES Playground Fund

Tax deductible
My name is Ashley Hughes and I am the Secretary at the Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary school where my daughter is in first grade.  I am also the head committee chair of the Playground Committee through our school’s parent teacher organization. I am very passionate about this project and can't wait to start! The Playground Committee is in the beginning stages of figuring out how to raise money to get our elementary school a new playground.  We are always looking for volunteers and new ideas!

The Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary School is home to 300+ students from Early Childhood through 5th grade who live in the Hinckley-Big Rock School District.  These are an important years for all students as they move from being young children to young adults.  These school years offer them an opportunity to still be kids before moving on to our middle and high schools where expectations are different and focus on outdoor recess changes. Here at Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary we know that active outdoor play with peers at recess is very important, and we would love to have a place for our students to enjoy doing those things safely.

Recess on the playground at HBRES is not what it used to be because the playground equipment is 20 years old.  It’s outdated, not much fun and, quite frankly, simply outdated.  We decided that new playground equipment was a necessity and so the Playground Committee was formed. In preparation for looking into new playground equipment, I have met with 2 vendors and received a few quotes.  We have conducted a student survey asking students what they would like to see on our playground.  It was great to see their responses and the things they liked the most!

While we’d all like to see the school district pay for new equipment, there simply isn’t enough money in the budget to entirely fund this project.  The District will be contributing a portion to our cause but we do need some help from our community.  In the past, the Hinckley-Big Rock community has been successful at raising money and recruiting volunteers for similar projects, including the playground equipment that is currently there!  We’re hoping both Hinckley and Big Rock will rally again to support this project.

Right now we are gathering ideas to get us started raising the estimated $80,000 we will need to complete this project. Besides fundraising, we will also need community involvement in the tear down and new build.  Our community is small, so we need everyone to work together.

We appreciate any help you can give in helping us reach our goal!  We are very excited about this adventure and we appreciate all of your support!
