Puppy Mill Rescue Vet Care

HALO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues Havanese from puppy mills. We are currently caring for 59 Havanese who we rescued from puppy mills in the last few weeks. The emotional damage is being addressed by our wonderful, dedicated fosters who will teach these sweet pups what love and freedom are all about. Most of the dogs are scared, timid, and need time and patience in order to trust people.
Then, there is the physical damage. Most are very skinny with ribs showing, and some have serious medical issues that need to be addressed. All 59 rescues need vet care before they can be adopted over the next few months. All need to be vaccinated, have blood work, and be spayed or neutered. So many have major dental issues that are clearly causing them pain. They need dental care and, in a number of cases, many extractions. We have one with a heart issue who will be seen by a cardiologist. Two others have mammary masses, one is experiencing seizures, one has a luxating patella, one has infected paws, one is expecting pups, and two others may possibly be pregnant. These are just some of the many issues that need to be addressed. This is what we know after only a few weeks -- we also know there will be more health issues that come up.
The pictures below show the before and after of one of our new rescue's teeth. Can you imagine how painful her mouth must have felt? They have lived their whole lives in this condition, until now. Now, life only gets better and better! The second picture what her teeth looked like after she received vet care. The "after" is worth smiling about.

HALO doesn't cut corners on medical care. We feel that if we are going to rescue dogs, then we will do it right! Being healthy is the start to their happy life of freedom. Our babies need the best medical care. They don't deserve any less.
