Donna's Spinal Surgery Fund
DONNA LYNN BROPHY SUPPLEMENTAL NEEDS TRUST
My daughter, Donna Lynn Brophy (aka "Bhakti Brophy") was hit by a car in 1997, resulting in multiple surgeries, including cervical spine reconstruction in 2005. Living with spinal cord nerve root injuries and four incurable spinal diseases causes her severe chronic pain and has left her virtually bedridden and 100% disabled for the past ten years.
Donna’s insurance no longer covers all of the costs of her disability and care. Therefore, we have set up a SUPPLEMENTAL NEEDS TRUST (SNT) to help provide all the costs that insurance and government benefits deny. This Trust will allow her access to doctors and surgeons who specialize in her condition, as well as other modalities that have proven effective. These costs are significant, costing tens of thousands of dollars yearly.
Before becoming disabled, Donna was a professional photographer (Donna Lynn Brophy Photography) and musician in NYC. Her work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Vibe, Parade, etc., and her clients included Interscope Records and Y&R Advertising, amongst others. Her archives are represented by Retna NYC, London.
Donna started playing guitar at age seven. In the 1990s her music was heard on college radio. She played her solo LIVE ACOUSTIC shows at CBGB's and other venues.
With your contributions we can continue to sustain my daughter's quality of life, and she can continue to inspire others. Her perseverance and will to live inspire me daily.
Thank You Sincerely,
Jane C. Brophy/Trustee
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
“We can find inspiration in various walks of life. Donna is just one of those people. Her passion for music and the guitar has given her the courage and strength to rise above tremendous limitation. And this is how one can change the world for the better. By being an excellent example. You go sister!”

*** Donna met with prominent Columbia University, NYC, neurosurgeon Dr C. Winfree today. At this point, the cutting edge stimulator surgery is out-- there is simply too much wrong with her spine-- too many areas of pain.
Instead, Dr Winfree is referring Donna for a Spinal Infusion Pump Surgery. The closest doctor/hospital who does this surgery balked at Donna not having supplemental insurance (she paid too many taxes to be eligible for Medicaid ,& you have to be 50 years old to purchase your own supplementary insurance in NJ).
Therefore we're back to where we started and NEED TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THIS SURGERY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Donna divides her time between a hospital bed in the dining room and my craftmatic bed, while I sleep on the couch.
Eleven years in bed is too long.
PLEASE HELP DONNA GET SOME MODICUM OF A QUALITY OF LIFE.
Thank You Sincerely,
Jane C. Brophy
Donna (aka Bhakti) has been waiting for 11 years for the possibility of a new treatment. That day has finally come. A new breakthrough surgery is available for her in New York City.
Donna has four incurable degenerative spinal diseases. The surgery would place electrodes adjacent to pain centers in Donna's brain and would bypass the spinal cord.
We are having our 2nd Annual Labor Day Weekend Fundraiser to help with the significant costs of this surgery, which are not completely covered by insurance. The donations will also cover Donna's doctor bills and medications that are in double digit thousands yearly and are no longer covered by her insurance.
Help Donna get the surgery she needs to increase her care and quality of life.

Thank you to everyone who continues to send in donations to our P.O. Box (check out the DONNA LYNN BROPHY SNT Facebook page for details), and donations here on Go Fund Me.
On December 31, Donna sustained a concussion that has resulted in her pain levels doubling. It's been an especially difficult time for Donna-- her physical disabilities force her to rely on her mental acuity to get her through each day. The concussion has (temporarily) robbed her of the ability to write music, read, use electronic devices, study and research the various things she so loves to study.
We thank you so dearly for your outpouring of love and support.
Please keep Donna in your hearts and prayers during this particularly trying time.

Bhakti! I'm still serious about that video, but you need to get in touch. Might help with fundraising, but it will take time. I have some ideas to run by you. You'll find contact info at airworthy.com. Hang in there! Hope you're listening to lots of Steve Vai.
Well that sucks bigtime. Sorry that you received bad news from Dr Winfree, and it doesn't make since that Donna paid too many taxes to be elegable Medicare. Regardless she need help. Praying that the Gofundme me can get enough for the surgery.
Hey Bhakti, might be time for that video. I have an interesting idea. We should talk. Drop me a line some time. Contact info on my web site.
