This one time at BurningMan......some weirdos in the Gigsville village brought a bullet riddled car that had accidentally spent some time in a lake to the playa to finally set it on fire! It was dubbed “The CarBQ!” 18 years and 5 different vehicles later, these weirdos still bring a car (now an SUV) out and set it on fire. Except now it has a restaurant griddle in the hood and a pizza oven & grill in the back seat. MANY a burner has been fed or spent a late cold night huddled around our ginormous burn barrel & this heart of our village over the last 20 yrs! We managed to get 8 years out of the last vehicle, but now it’s time for the current SUV to go to a nice farm to play with all the other burned out cars before it.
We are now at the dawn of a NEW, IMPROVED & BACON SCENTED CarBQ to celebrate the 20 year on-playa anniversary of the village of Gigsville! This is the longest running art piece that is set on fire at Burning Man (besides the Man that is!)
Twenty three artists have already traveled from all over the country to begin the long process to transform this 2001 Tahoe into what will be known as the TAHOEBBQ and hopefully last another decade!
Soooooo many hours of work still need to be done!
We are asking for your help to finish this project. The amount requested is for:
**Purchase of the Tahoe off Craigslist (purchased in September 2016)
**2000 lbs of steel that will reinforce the body and make the fabulous ash retrival system which ensures that although we will burn 8 cords of wood in a week that we will still "Leave NO Trace" !
**Gas, wire, & grinding discs for the hours & days & weeks of welding
**Transportation from Austin to Nevada
**Storage in Nevada for a year
We hope you will help us bring our newest version of this classic apocalypse centerpiece to Burning Man in 2017. Even if you can’t give, PLEASE come by Gigsville this year and join in the jackassery that is being planned for our 20th year together on the playa and check out the new TahoeBBQ!
