 BELLE CHASSE, LA
On Thursday, September 15th, Michael Suarez went to the ER after vomitting and having the worst headache he has ever had. Within two hours of being at the ER, we learned he had a brain tumor and was transferred to Children's Hospital right away.

He had surgery that following day, Friday at 3pm and the doctors were able to remove the entire tumor. The tumor falls under the tumor classs PNET, primitive neuroectodermal tumor. Michael's tumor has been classified as the very aggressive tumor and has fallen under the stage 4 category for his type of tumor.

Michael faces months in the hospital. He will have to endure radiation and chemotherapy over several months.

Michael's entire family has made a promise that at least one family member will be with him through this entire process. He will have a parent by his side at all times.

We are asking to raise money to help with all the new expenses that are now their "norm" of having a child with cancer. The money will go towards helping Michael and his new financial costs, but also for Michael's older brother, Matthew Suarez. We want to try as hard as possible to keep Matthew's life as "normal" as possible with his parents always being at the hospital and him still going to school and so on. Matthew has to have a babysitter before school to get to school and more.

ANY HELP that you can give, through money and prayer will be recieved with gratitude and love. It will only be used for the care of Michael and what short comings come from that. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND PRAYERS!

Hi, Everyone. Michael finished his last round chemo a couple of weeks ago. The chemo has taken its toll on him but, he has and will continue to battle back! He has been a fighter through all of this and I am so very proud of him! I'm sure I'm forgetting some but, He completed over 95 sessions of rehab services(speech, PT & OT), endured having his port replaced(surgery), psychology sessions, weekly access and de-access of his port for blood draws, 3 MRI's, 3 lumbar punctures both under sedation, Echo/EKG's, 5 Pulmonary tests, 5 Audio evaluations, having to receive platelets and blood, allergic reactions to the platelets, luckily relieved mostly by Benadryl, emotional swings due to the chemo, and on top of all that still managed to keep up his school work. Luckily, he and Justin, his teacher, really connected. All this just since returning Jan. 12th. We were also blessed to have had, what I would call, the "A" Team at E-Clinic, Dr. Gajjar, Ginger, CPNP and Katie, RN, Kristin, Allison and Janet(Speech, OT & PT)

We have been blessed by God that Michael's scans and lumbar punctures have been clear.

Michael has been released from Memphis. He and I are so glad to be home! Michael's blood counts will continue to be monitored through OLOL in Baton Rouge, a St. Jude affiliate. He will continue his rehab at St. Tammany Hospital Outpatient Rehab. He will do homebound for school to finish up third grade.

We want to thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts and generous support! We thank you for the continued prayers not only for our family but for all the children and families fighting this terrible illness.

Michael has now returned to St. Jude to start his chemotherapy treatment that will go on till May. Our family was blessed to be able to spend Christmas with Michael home. He has been the strongest boy I know. He pushes himself to relearn second nature things to us like talking and writing. He has progressed tremendously since the tumor has been removed. He gets to attend a "school" while at St. Jude, so he can continue to learn. When Michael went back for tests to see how the radiation had done, we were very relieved to find out that everything went great! We are still asking for everyone's prayers and support since the hard part is now beginning. The donations and support from everyone has helped all of Michael's family members get through this difficult time. We could use all the support we can get during this difficult time. Michael is beyond grateful for all the love and support he and his family are receiving. . Please, keep donating, praying and sharing this page!

Michael made it St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tn on Sunday Oct 2nd. That week he did more testing and his port was placed inside his chest for access since this will be a very long battle. He had his “special” helmet made for the radiation therapy. He begins radiation therapy using the first proton therapy center dedicated solely to children with cancer. This form of radiation is so important for Michael because of where the tumor was and the damage another radiation machine could have done to this area. This proton beam therapy will kill the the cells/tumor while minimizing damage to healthy brain tissue.
Michael will receive this therapy for 6 weeks.  Kennon, Andres and Michael have been overwhelmed by the amazing outpouring of prayers, support and donations.  They are forever grateful and humbled by it and love getting the notes and or texts from so many.  Please keep Michael continuously in your thoughts and prayers!
