I am Nick, but many know me as Skylaurr. You may also recognize me from Brooklyn nightlife and the house/ballroom community as a dancer, DJ, and producer.
For the majority of April 2018, I have been wearing a sling for worsening olecranon bursitis in my left elbow (aka popeye's elbow). As a result of ongoing professional and personal hardships, high stress levels have resulted in psychogenic nonepileptic seizures that would leave me bedridden. Stemming from a form of epilepsy that arose in early 2015, rising healthcare costs have made it near impossible for these seizures to be adequately diagnosed and treated by a physician.
Late in the evening on April 25, 2018, I had a seizure in which my elbow struck the edge of my nightstand, renewing my bursitis which may now require surgery to be truly rectified. I am a swim coach and instructor at YMCA. Without the proper treatment, I am becoming increasingly unable to work as I can barely rotate my arm for more than a few hours every few days due to recurring swelling.
As a result, I am asking for your help in paying for two doctor visits to CityMD which include an epilepsy consultation, an x-ray for my elbow and possible surgery to drain / alter my bursa. If I do not end up needing surgery, I will be using the remaining funds to buy a compression wrap for my elbow and at least 14 days worth of over the counter pain relief medication unless I am given a prescription for something stronger. All funds will in turn go towards that prescription and potential psych medication for my epilepsy.
Although I must be able to pay rent this month, it is imperative to ensure my condition doesn't become more severe. Unfortunately, paying for both is not currently possible. I am grateful for any amount of help I may receive by the time of my follow-up doctor visit on May 25, 2018.
