Missions Trip to South Africa

Donation protected
“If our church closed its doors today, would anyone in the community know we were gone?”

This thought is what provoked and inspired a movement in the Ugu District of South Africa; An area where 52% of the people living there are unemployed or without a steady income, 40% have HIV/Aids and 44% of the population is under the age of 20. The Genesis Trust was created to meet the needs of the surrounding community. With a hospice, community gardens, gym, community center, a leadership academy, music academy, bible camp, training center and more, Genesis is changing the lives of thousands.

We desperately want to be a part of it.

Matt is a licensed plumber and a jack of all trades. It has been his passion to find a way to serve God with these skills in a very tangible way.  He is very excited at the prospect of being able to take over the maintenance role to free up others for future out reach. His wife, Amber, is well equipped with administrative, computer and training skills. She will be looking into ways that she can equip the community with the skills needed to build resumes and make themselves more effective candidates for work.  While we still do not know what God has in store for us, we are excited by the prospects and would like to explore this opportunity.

We are working towards spending 4 weeks this summer in Port Shepstone with the members of The Genesis Trust and exploring different possible opportunities.  Matt will shadow the current maintenance missionary while Amber will have the opportunity to explore several of their programs as well as visit some of the schools the two boys might attend. Jonah (10) and Wesley (7) are extremely excited about this adventure and are looking forward to seeing God’s love at work (and the monkeys). The hope, with this trip, is that we will confirm God’s desire for us to be there and then work towards moving to South Africa long term. In order to make this exploratory trip a reality, we will need to raise enough funds for passports, airfare, travel, housing, fuel and food.  Every donation counts and we appreciate all the love and support we have already received.  Thank you to everyone who had already expressed joy and excitement for us as we take a step out in faith and we truly love and appreciate all of those who will be praying and donating towards this new adventure. Thank you from the bottom, and tops, of our hearts.
