 GREEN BAY, WI

Officer McKee was severely injured during a staff assault at Green Bay Correctional Institution when an inmate threw a pot of scalding water directly into his face. He is currently at the burn center in Milwaukee receiving treatment. He will need extensive skin grafts and his recovery will be lengthy and extremely painful.  His family shouldn't have to worry about paying their mortgage or utility bills. His family members should not have to worry about loss of pay for taking time off from work to be by his side while he fights the greatest fight of his lifetime. This fund is set up to relieve them of any financial stress so they can focus on what's important: his healing.

Please contribute - even $1 will help. This fund was started by fellow Correctional Officers and their  spouses. We wanted to help - we couldn't just sit back and do nothing.

If you are a state employee, kindly leave your institution name in your comments when signing.  The support you are all showing for Officer McKee is truly amazing. Please leave comments for him also.  His family and friends will be giving him your messages.

Chad Frappier has graciously taken care of being point person.  He has access to and will be giving all funds to the McKee family.  You may contact Frap for any information as he is in close contact with the family.

We have printable campaign flyers available. If you would like one, please email me at cewerdt@gmail.com and I will get one to you in a printable format.

John continues to improve. Next time he goes, he will receive laser treatments to reduce the nerve pain he is having due to nerve regeneration.

His hands are very stiff due to being severely burned. He has to exercise them each morning to get them to work well.

His vision is still somewhat cloudy and that continues to be a concern.

All in all he is doing what his doctor's recommend and is healing more each day...

John is now at home. He is recuperating nicely according to his doctors for what he has gone through. He will be traveling back & forth to Milwaukee to check his progress, to assess his need to skin grafts and to change his bandages. His head & neck have cleared up considerably and at the moment don't seem to have continuing damage. His right eye is still blurry & that too will need to be watched. All in all he is doing well considering. Thanks to all his friends & family & even strangers for helping out for a fellow human being. It is much appreciated.

Sincerely
Vicki Lewis-McKee

Spent time there under your watch. If my memory serves me correctly you wrote me up once or twice lol. You all do a thankless job. Many say that officers "do time with the inmates"...and only former inmates, your immediate family and coworkers may understand this. Civilians and lawmakers generally dont. Thank you for being the only thing standing between the wolves and the sheep. Prayers to you and yours and your recovery, and i hope this brightens your day.
