Although Delta Foundation’s Pittsburgh Pride’s slogan this year is ‘all you need is love’, we understand that there is no love without intentionality, no love without solidarity, and no love without justice.

We have found the Delta Foundation’s Pittsburgh Pride to be sorely lacking in the requirements for love, which is why we are creating our own. June 13, 2015 will be the first annual Roots Pride Pittsburgh.

Roots Pride Pittsburgh is a celebration of queer and trans people of color and those who stand in solidarity with us in the LGBTQIA+ community.

We have seen that far too often, Pride, here in Pittsburgh and throughout the nation, is centered on the desires of affluent, cis, gay, white men who are detached from the lived realities of much of our community. The Delta Foundation’s Pittsburgh Pride’s decision to bring Iggy Azelea to headline is an indicator of this detachment.

Pride did not start off as the sole property of cis, gay, white men. Pride is the result of uprisings against police brutality led by trans and queer women of color.

These uprisings were for the rights of LGBTQIA+ peoples everywhere to have live, love ,and Be fully who we are. Today, trans and queer people of color are still fighting for the right to live, love, and be fully who we are.

Pride was Political.
Pride is still Political.
Pride will always be Political.

Roots Pride Pittsburgh is a commitment to honor these historic uprisings through solidarity and celebration, not assimilation.

Thank you for helping us build a world that is truly inclusive of all of the beauty and radiance that exists in the LGBTQIA+ community. Your contribution is proof of the power of solidarity.

Collectively, this campaign is proof of the power of people to come together around a vision and bring that vision to life. You are, we are the world changers!

Please let us know if there is someone missing from our donor's page who you would like us to ask.

Once again, thank you for acting in love, in solidarity, and with intentionality.

Why $50,000? Because it’s more than just a party. Roots Pride PGH is about celebrating the lives of all LGBTQIA+ people, absolutely. But it’s also about ensuring the thrival of Trans and Queer People of Color by investing deeply in the people on the ground that are part of the community doing excellent work on behalf of the QTPOC community in Pittsburgh.

So what would we do with 50,000 dollars? The first $25,000 would throw the most phenomenal party for the LGBTQIA+ community that Pittsburgh has ever seen. We would do that by paying both local and national performers fairly for their artistry, hosting intergenerational events and sober events, along with the traditional parties with performers selected for excellence, inclusivity, and solidarity with trans and queer people of color.

Then we would contribute at least $20,000 to organizations who are already doing the important work of serving and celebrating trans and queer people of color in Pittsburgh. Why is it so important to support Trans and Queer people of color in Pittsburgh? Well, Pittsburgh is rated 227 out of 230 for diversity and has some of the worst statistics for the well-being of people of color in the nation.

More importantly, Trans and Queer people of color in Pittsburgh deserve to thrive, but we won’t do it by relying on the powers that be.

Pittsburgh is a city that traditionally has ignored the needs of people of color, particularly black people. Delta Foundation is only one example of the lack of intentional and accountable investment into POC communities in Pittsburgh.. The organizations that have done the work of serving QTPOC communities do so with budgets that are like many of our paychecks; too much month left at the end of the money.

Organizations like the Garden of Peace Project, New Voices Pittsburgh: Women of Color for Reproductive Justice, Cafe Con Leche, Pittsburgh Black Pride, Tabernacle of Immaculate Perception, True "T" Entertainment, and others deserve to carry out their mission without being hampered by the false scarcity that plague QTPOC organizations in the most philanthropic city in the world.

With the last $5,000, we would offer flash grants between $250 and $1,000 to support the dreamers and the visionaries in the QTPOC Pittsburgh community. These mini-grants are meant to support the freshest, flyest ideas that just need a couple of dollars to sprout wings and breathe beauty into Pittsburgh.

Whether you know it or not, supporting us means you are supporting a richer, more alive, more awakened Pittsburgh. A more awakened world. You are helping to build a future where we will all live, love, be, and thrive.
