From Depression to Diploma & Beyond

This is True. He is a deeply loved and incredibly gifted young man with lived experience of depression and anxiety. He should have graduated High School last June but spent the final four months of his senior year unable to leave his home due to severe depression.
April 23 marks True's nineteenth birthday and he is working incredibly hard to complete his last class (chemistry) so he can walk at graduation and receive a High School diploma this June.
From the outside, it seems like an easy task for a bright kid but from the inside, each day is like a Boston marathon without shoes.
True's deepest wish (other than meeting Penn & Teller) is to attend the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly (GA) in New Orleans after graduation. At this annual liberal religious conference, he would participate in a ceremony of Bridging marking the transition from Adolescent to Young Adult.
THIS TRIP WOULD BE SIGNIFICANT FOR TRUE IN A PROFOUND WAY; IT WOULD MARK HIS ABILITY TO BOUNCE BACK FROM SEVERE DEPRESSION AND ACHIEVE HIS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.
Attending GA would give True the chance to publicly acknowledge his achievement and break the stigma of mental illness.
True has applied for a GA scholarship and our fingers are crossed! We are now raising money for air fair (about $700), food & lodging (a deal at $300) and a little pocket money (about $100).
We are asking our community for help because our very limited family income covers only the basics of food, medication and rent.
We would give anything for True to really feel the full weight of love and support from his community.
Join Team True and speak up for all young people who live with mental health conditions so that they can get the support they need to move through school with their lives intact.
With Deepest Gratitude & Brightest Blessings,
Team True
