FreeUAB Movie to follow "4th Down"
I attached the short fim "4th Down" that was done by two UAB film students Kourtney Cowart and Michael Shikany. These two students have collected tons of footage on this UAB football debacle since December 2. They have continued to schedule interviews and continue to get more footage as the last exciting weeks have passed. I think we can all agree their work is very impressive!
I am writing because these students are making a high-quality, full-length movie this Summer that will build on "4th Down." This movie will be a "what's next" for UAB football film. Their problem is that they both need full time jobs this summer but they also need to spend large amounts of time for editing so that they can make an excellent film for all of us to enjoy.
So, I had the idea that some of us out in the community could come together and donate some money to help sponsor these students this summer while they are putting together a full-length film for the UAB community.
Regardless of whatever we're able to do for them, the students are going to put in countless hours into this film this summer. If we just sponsored 20 hours each student per week working on this movie (40 hours a week total) times 10 weeks in the summer at $8.00 an hour it would total $3,200.00. (3,500.00 includes gofundme costs) Obviously, if we could double this and raise $7,000.00 we could sponsor them full time on the movie this summer.
The students will keep and post minutes of the work they do on the movie every week so we can watch their progress as well as release trailers every couple weeks. They will have their own tab on the freeuab.org website and will share on social media.
Here's the cool part: The students said that anyone who gives money will be listed in the final credits as a producer!
And, since UAB folks put their money where their mouth is, me and my boss Alexander Shunnarah, have already made a donation for $500.00 each totalling $1,000.00. The students needed an new iPad and a large external Hard Drive a couple weeks ago to get started. We went ahead and used $635.12 of our $1,000.00 to purchase the iPad and Hard Drive for the students so they had what they needed when the announcement was made. I attached my credit card receipts. So, Alex and I are starting off this drive with $364.88 to apply to the $3,500.00 fund making it $3,135.12 in needed funds as of right now.
Please share with anyone willing to donate.
I talked to Steve at Iron City and he does have some costs associated with this. So, we wanted all students (and donors of course) to get in free with their ID and ask for a $5 donation to help him pay costs. He is going to use Iron City social media and marketing to market the movie and the trailer for us which will reach thousands of people. Steve agreed that if there were any profits that he would split those with the students. If we really packed the house it might help them pay some of the costs associated with submitting the film to film festivals. You never know!
I know that we were planning on releasing everything last week but since everything changed so drastically after the announcement the students have really had to re-think the whole movie. I didn't want them to rush this first trailer since it's the introduction to the documentary. They have a few interviews this week that they want to get before they finish it up. The plan is to have it ready by the end of next week for release. We will have Iron City start promoting it and we will try to get as many news specials on it as we can.
Another little bit of really good news is that Michael is getting the drone in a few weeks (it's still on pre-order). So, he will have time to work with it for a while and hopefully get some great shots of our beautiful city for the movie. I think that's really exciting.
Thank you folks so much for your contributions and all your support! Go Blazers!!
One last thing and certainly don't feel pressured in any way. If you would, just pass this offer out to anyone (probably business owners) who you might think would be interested in it:
I was meeting with the students making the movie this week and they really want to add some "drone" footage into the movie bc that is the new wave of movie filming. Of course, they need money to buy the drone. If anyone knows a person who might be willing to do this the students would put their name (or business) in the front of the credits and say "All arial footage provided by ....." Also, Michael, the student who is doing all the filming for the movie said he would be happy to shoot as much drone footage as that person would like if they wanted to use some drone footage in a commercial for their business? The Cost of the drone is about $1,800.00. Apparently this is the new wave of filming and would be really good for the movie, especially when they try to get into film festivals later this year. It's just an idea I thought someone might be interested in?
If you know anyone interested just have them call me on my cell 205-585-6227 or email: email@example.com
Thank you guys so much for making this happen! Stay tuned next week for the trailer!!
