For the Love of Trooper

Donation protected
Trooper is a really special boy who has a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia. In simple terms, this means his wiring is a bit crooked. Obvious things like his lack of balance. Less obvious things like his exremely low vision. And things you don't see, but which are very challenging, such as poor motility in his digestive system and the long term effects of the various complications. He is a very happy dog who lives large. He deserves a chance to keep living as fully as possible.

In the past year Trooper has needed veterinarian intervention several times due to this lack of motility. His special diet doesn't seem to be working any more. Last week he to be rushed to the emergency vet, and had the irrigation not worked, he would have faced highly risky anesthesia and even surgery. He pulled through and was back to normal really fast, but  we are unable to just keep doing what we’ve been doing. We will be doing medication trials to see if we can stimulate motility in his intestines,  he will be on an appetite stimulant and he will be getting microlax enemas 2x a week, along with the daily laculose dose. We will try two medications and likely need scans, xrays and bloodwork. If that doesn’t produce results, then we will be referred to the vet college in PEI which will mean out of province travel, etc.

We set up this account because Trooper has an arch in his spine that will cause pain and mobility issues as he ages. He needs to be assessed and a treatment plan created. We know that will mean scans and physiotherapy, possibly laser therapy, and almost certainly a custom brace to help reshape his spine.

Trooper has made it through five years of a full life with regular maintenance vet care and has brought so much joy to the lives he touches.  But he needs intervention on these issues and the cost is beyond their current income. They simply don't have the funds, but Trooper needs this. So we are asking for your help.

His mama is doing her best for him. She homemakes his food so he gets the high fibre he needs as well as the restricted proteins due to allergies. She diapers him when he has trouble with housetraining due to neurological issues. She carries him when he can’t walk and she tells him he is the handsomest man because he can’t see himself. She has also taken up self-employment so she can care for him at home. Most dog daycares won’t accommodate a special needs dog that requires so much supervision. She is building a life for them in a very challenging economic time. Their business is still growing but all new businesses need time to develop. Until the business grows a bit more, they are in a very difficult position. Your donation will help get Trooper the vet care he needs and help his mama take good care of him.
