Help sending food to Venezuela

$32,560 of $35,000 goal

Raised by 371 people in 34 months
My name is Belsay Gonzalez, and I moved to United States in 2003 from Venezuela in order to provide a better future for my 2 daughters. I am currently a permanent resident living in Jupiter, Florida. Although I never lost contact with Venezuela it was not until June of 2016 when my in-laws called asking me for help that I started this campaign motivated by the horrible situation Venezuelans were and are continuing to endure. During this past year I have been able to help some friends and families by sending them boxes filled with toiletries, supplies, and food. Beneficiaries include in-laws, family members, and friends–but mostly people referred to me by others–or people that have contacted me when they discovered the campaign.
Since I am basically doing this with the help of my Mom, my husband, and other family members I mostly spend funds on the goodies and shipment costs. My only overhead is some gas (I shop around so I get the best deals), and some items like tables, trollies, and baskets needed to organize and handle donations. I also collect food within my workplace from my generous co-workers and local residents at my town's church.
At the beginning of my journey I set a very conservative goal thinking that the food crisis would be temporary, but honestly I was skeptical. I was, and still am surprised and touched beyond belief by the amount of support I have received.
Thanks to the donors I have managed to help about to 40 families (out of those 8 are my relatives). Some families have been helped once others have been beneficiated several times, and have recived food as donations come in.
I have also supported a charity called Feed the Solidarity, which prepares food for children and families who live in the poorest areas of Caracas, Venezuela.
I basically ship 3 square feet boxes directly to people's home or to their jobs if they live in suburban areas.
My last shipment was sent right before protests started, so the delivery took longer due to difficulties transiting through Caracas. I am currently shopping for dry food, baby formula, powered milk, diapers, basic medicine & toiletries, and other essentials. Hopefully I will be able to start shipping in about two weeks or as soon as the situation settles down in Venezuela. My plan is to incorporate more beneficiaries sending help to another charity called FUNDANA. Please give us a hand in continuing to help families feed their children and elderly relatives.

I wish I could say Venezuelan's crisis was over, but there is nothing further from reality. The truth is that food and medicine continue to be scarce, and in some cases completely unaffordable for a population whose minimum salary barely reaches $10 per month. In Venezuela prices increase 4% daily, therefore many rely on their families to be able to sustain themselves. In some cities there is little to no public transportation, so people must walk every where they go–even to go to work everyday. The number of Venezuelans eating from garbage continues to increase along with the middle class families struggling everyday to bring food to their table. It is heartbreaking to witness a once wealthy and thriving country reach rock bottom while leaving a troubled future home to the children of Venezuela. I never thought I would be doing this two years after I started this mission. I wish we were not in such dire need of help, however that is not the case as the country continues to regress. Please continue to support this cause . God bless.

Last shipment made it to Venezuela on Friday, all the clothes and part ot hygine products donated by Stony Brook University of Long Island were sent. Now I am coordinating shipping sweaters and coats to Merida in cold Venezuelan Andes mountains.
Food and medicine scarcity has worsen, lack of currency, frequent power outages, high prices, etc. have made access to basis harder. People are fleeing Venezuela by thousands daily to go find a better life in other countries. Everyday hundreds can be seen crossing the borders walking. There is no hope.

Is there a way people could "adopt" a family and send them goods directly using Amazon or from our own home. Could you get an address for a family in need? I am sure there are individuals like myself that would really like to help and feeling helpless.

Hello, I am a venezuelan student of medicine career. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder 3 years ago, still I am struggling to continue my career and it's very hard for me to find my pills (Prozac, quetiapine), as well it is for so many people around here and the suicide numbers had increased too, specially in young people like me and I don't wanna get to that point, sometimes I think about it but I am struggling so hard to finish my career and to have a better life soon, that's what makes me still having hopes but eveything gets so hard here and its impossible to not cry or have episodes of intense sadness, insomnia, anxiety, so... recently i've been so depressed (Like never did) and the situation about this country isn't helping much, in my family, we also have the same problems about getting food and supplies, medicines, and the money is never enough due to the inflation... Its very embarrasing for me to do this, but as you all know here the situation about venezuela, I am one of thousands of those who needs help, if someone wants to help this individual situation, you can talk to me directly I can speak english fluently and I can give you my skype address through inbox, I never wanted to come to this point to ask for help, but I have several days I can say maybe months without motivation I dont wanna show my real name here because of the social stigma of having depression and studying medicine, but those who wants to help me will get to know who I am and I will be forever grateful with them and in debt with them naturally for when I become a financially and emotionally stable person, I hope. Thanks to all who had the patience and the heart reading this.

Hello, For the people wanting to adopt a family, I would like to share this information: you can order food online from Walmart they would honor free shipping if you spend more than $30.00. This maybe a good option for whomever does not live in Florida. Please contact me via email if you need further information.

Hi, my heart is going out to all of the Venezuelans in need. As a new mom, I really want to contribute to specifically mothers in need of formula, and nourishment for themselves to breastfeed. I would like to know if you could arrange that, or if I could ship supplies directly to families somehow? Thank you for your efforts!

Belsay, I just read the comment from Leonardo Gonzalez. I feel so sorry for him and his family. Is there any way that I can help them directly. He said donation of money and if he has a internet access, I could send a donation by paypal to his email address and then he would transfer it to a bank account. If this would not work, then maybe food. If you get a mailing address, then I could possibly send food from amazon.com as I have Prime and get free shipping and they now have a pantry with food items that I could send to them. Please advise me, thanks, Gayla.
