Marymount Hospice & Stripes For Life

FireEye Ireland, based in Mahon, Cork, allows all employees to donate one day a year to help out a good cause  locally. This is FireEye's Philanthropy Day. 

This year, a large group have decided to take to the skies! 
The FireEye Flying Philanthropists, together with brave family and friends, have decided to do a SkyDive and raise funds to be shared equally between Marymount Hospice in Cork and Lauren Walsh, a local young lady from Passage, who suffers from EDS - Ehler Danlos Syndrome. The team, many of whom are jumping for the first time, will take the leap on 2 dates, currently booked for May 25th and June 8th, weather permitting!

Marymount University Hospital & Hospice is a healthcare facility which provides two distinct services. The elderly care facility provides respite care, intermediate palliative care and continuing care for older people. Marymount Hospice provides care to patients with progressive illness, both cancer and non-cancer, at a time when pain or other symptom issues need addressing. Patients on active treatment may benefit from a short term admission for symptom control and rehabilitation. Support is offered to families facing loss or who are bereaved. Marymount is the designated Specialist Care Centre for the Cork/Kerry region serving a population of approximately 600,000.

Lauren has a host of rare illnesses, diagnosed 14 years ago with Ehler Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and, later, with Axelrod's Congenital Dysfunction. She is in intestinal failure and spends 20 hours a day on a TPN feed.  As she has zero absorption, she is on  many IVs. She has a Pej (jejunostomy) tube in her tummy, as well as an ileostomy bag. Lauren has severe gastroparesis, as well as Raynaud's Syndrome. As Lauren has been diagnosed as completely unique with her array of symptoms, she requires round-the-clock medication and care. For a young person going through such a difficult time, Lauren is an absolute inspiration with her positive outlook and sense of humour through it all.
