Hi there, my name is Kathleen Sawisky, and I love to write. When not talking about my struggles with chronic pain or writing open letters over on my blog, I have been working diligently on my first novel in a series.
The Code: Between Fire and Pines
“When I was little I used to dream of spiders”
Now as a teenager, something else haunts Natalia Artison's dreams. Her parents are dead, leaving behind a lifetime of lies and placing Natalia and her older sister, Beth, in the hands of Steven Delarno, a man who would rather be exploring the bottom of a bottle than playing guardian to two teenagers. But the secrets Natalia’s parents left behind have infiltrated their daughter’s life, and there is a target painted on her back by a man that Steven has spent a decade trying to avoid. Their mutual distrust has left Natalia and Steven struggling to find common ground. It is only when the girls are kidnapped into the night that Steven is able to pull himself out of his stupor.
He will travel to the ends of the earth to bring them home and protect them from the man he knows to be a brutal killer. But time is running out, and Natalia cannot wait for her guardian to save her.
Ultimately, Steven and Natalia must come to terms with what has haunted them both for far too long: an unholy man, and the spiders he has coaxed from the darkness.

Whew, what a romp, eh? The Code: Between Fire and Pines has been in the works for years, and is the first in a series of 9 novels. I'm extraordinarily proud of the novel, and in 2016 I will be bringing it to an Amazon near you! If you are a fan of action-packed thrillers, or explosions, this book is for you!
Self-publishing is a difficult endevour. Everything from artwork to editing must be sourced independently by the author, which is why I am turning to GoFundMe. I'm ready to send my manuscript to the editor, however, I lack the $1575 needed to cover the costs. By contributing to this campaign, you are helping me pay for the poor soul who has agreed to correct my various ill-placed sentences and misused semicolons!

If you only need $1575, why are you trying to raise $1800?
In order to offer some fun rewards I've reached out to several artists I know to help create postcards, t-shirts, etc. They are amazingly talented and deserve to be paid for their work (licensing, etc). I'm not sure how many arty things I will be paying for, so I'm covering my bases.
What is with the man artfully making out with the parrot?
That is my artistic recreation of my friend, Keith, making out with a parrot. I put it up as the header to annoy him. Hi, Keith!
Why did you take the artful picture of the man making out with the parrot down?
Keith was mad at me. He said he wouldn't donate while it was still up. Stay tuned for further updates on Keith being a total killjoy.

No, I have hired a lovely young artist named Maddison Barut to do it for me. She is fantastic.
Will the book only be available through Amazon?
Currently, yes. I've examined the recommended self-publishing tools out there, and CreateSpace seems to gel best with me. That means it will come in e-reader format, and print on demand. It will be soft-cover only, because hard cover books are for earners. I hope to also place the book in several stores as consignment, but that depends on how much I have to bribe those in charge.
