Help Me Get to Film School!

Donation protected
My name is Erin Oliver, I am 34 (almost 35)  I am a single mom,  but also (before I was injury) was on overflow into the IASTE local 480 Union for Film Techs, but what I really need.. is to finish film school!

You may have noticed that I started this campaign 10 months ago. When I was trying to raise money to go to SCAD. That didn't happen, but I was able to find enough money to go to a film school in Santa Fe.  And I loved it so much. I knew it was where I needed to be! I know I want to work in Post Production and I was totally content.

But my adventure ended after just two weeks,  Along with working in the film industry for the last 6 months when my sneakers came across heavy sidewalk ice on my way to the cafeteria that wasn't salted-- and I fell so hard that I tore my ACL/PCL/MCL all at the same time.  This photo was taken 4 days after the fall.

I had to have surgery to replace the ligaments in March, they told me that it would be a year before my knee would be back to normal.  And with physical therapy 3 times a week, I've rebounded a lot quicker than most but I still won't be going back to school until the fall of 2016.

I've worked below the line jobs in Film and TV for many years and the short time that I was in school I fell totally in love with it and I realized that I had a very specific dream. I knew I wanted to work in post production and I want to work in editing and I want to work in FX.

I want to work in Science Fiction, Thriller/Action, Superhero Television and Movies and I want to do it in Vancouver.  I would love to learn as many aspects of film making as possible, which is one of the great things about film school. I've been a photographer for 20 years so of course cinematography peaks my interest. I have also been stage management in theater before so working in directing and casting and even as an AD has always facinated me.

But the truth is this, in a genre that generally excludes Women in general, it is crucial to be on top of every technology that is available especially when it comes to digital imaging and special effects.  There are those who are self taught, but realistically to have access to the technology that is rapidly changing the landscape of film and television today you need serious skills and this can only come through formal education.

For me to succeed I have to be the best and I don't think starting in Atlanta and hoping to end up in Vancouver is the way to go about it. I want to start in Vancouver and stay in Vancouver because I'm old enough and wise enough to have lived in L.A and other cities that I know that is the place for me, and school is a very good place for me to start a citizenship process and a networking process. L.A. for me, is a place where people go for their dreams to die.

I am interested in a few schools but the one that has me most interested is Capilano University School of Motion Picture Arts

This is what I am looking like for costs... It's not all that bad but the housing and living is kind of expensive.

Anyway I am just glad you got to here. I don't like asking for money and that's why I have not been very agressive in this campaign. I just want to go to school and earn my way up. I keep my posters of the Arrow to remind me of where I am going.

I would appreciate anything that you are willing to give. Or if you would be willing to share. Thank you.
