Colin to The Mayo Clinic

Everyone knows life is full of blessings and valleys. Last year my wife and I encountered a valley when I was diagnosed with a very rare autoimmune disease called chronic inflammatory  demyelinating polyneuropathy. In a nutshell, my immune system attacks my peripheral  nerves causing severe paralysis and requires very expensive treatments.

 After losing my job due to the physical impairment, I had a long road to recovery. However, I was able to recover to the point where I was able to open my own business building unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture. I aptly named my business dEAD HANDS. This summer I had a severe relapse and became completely paralyzed in my arms and legs and I have not been able to return to work. This alarmed my doctors to the point where they all worked together and were able to provide me an incredible gift: an appointment at the Mayo Clinic.

My health insurance covers the medical expenses but we have to pay for the 2 week trip which is very difficult considering we are now a single income family. As you can imagine, airfare, hotel  and meals for my wife and I is very expensive. Although we have already received incredible support from our friends and family  over the past year and a half they keep asking us "what can we do to help?"  which is why we came up with this idea to use Gofundme to help cover our costs. My wife and I have both worked as professional fundraisers for several nonprofits  but it is extremely humbling to raise money for ourselves.

We have dreamed for many years to raise a family but this roadblock has hindered us.  Our promise to you is that every day we will fight this disease with all our might so we can live the simple dream of earning a living, having a home and raising a family.
