WHO WE ARE…
You know Abby and Adam. You know Nederland Feed & Pet—the premier place for the mountain community to buy only the best natural foods and supplies for their furry and feathered loved ones, a unique shining jewel of the town, and a family-owned small business that has always been there for you. And you know the new Log Cabin Grooming—the ONLY place to take your fur child for tender loving care.
But you may not know me. My name is Elizabeth (“Beth”) and I am Abby’s sister. Although I live in Chicago, I rely on Nederland Feed and Pet—Abby’s expertise—to supply and advise me on the care of my own furry family. If only I could teleport my furry ones to Log Cabin Grooming for a velvety #7 All Over :O
WHAT HAPPENED…
Our father was rushed to a hospital in Wisconsin and diagnosed with terminal cancer and multiple brain tumors on May 5, 2018.
On May 10, he underwent an intense brain surgery to at least remove the large tumor threatening his life at the moment. The surgery was successful in its focused goal, but the overall situation was dire. Abby spent this week at his side and mine, though somehow continued to work remotely on her businesses back in Colorado.
Once our father was released from the hospital to recover from surgery and contemplate the situation with family, Abby returned to Colorado to catch up on business there—despite how painful it was to leave.
On July 2, we received the message that, after two months of rapid deterioration, our father had passed away peacefully in his sleep and in his home—surrounded by his lifelong best friends. Abby returned to Wisconsin, and she then spent 2 weeks onsite and leading the charge in handling our father’s complicated matters of estate. And let me tell you…they are complicated and far from resolved.
Unfortunately, the 3+ total weeks of time in Wisconsin meant a great loss of grooming appointments—as many of you customers know all too well. This was a HUGE setback for a business strategy that had only just been put in place. Log Cabin Grooming was launched mostly because of Abby's passion for grooming, but it was also a responsible and ingenious move to help pay sales taxes.
These specific 3+ weeks of her absence wasn't the only factor in getting behind, but it was this incident that caused the closing of doors before Log Cabin Grooming's success could fully address the financial purpose it was created for. Adam kept the feed store running while Abby was away, but the grooming business was critical in contributing funds to pay state sales taxes. And what sales taxes were being collected from transactions had to be used to pay the businesses' other urgent bills rather than the Colorado Department of Revenue.
Abby has since returned to Colorado to catch up with business and serve the community, but the fact remains that $65,000 in sales taxes AND fees to the state are needed to fully reconcile Nederland Feed & Pet as well as Log Cabin Grooming.

A hero swooped in and lent Abby and Adam the money they needed to re-open their businesses’ doors after a sudden closure by the Colorado Department of Revenue. Guys, someone in the Nederland vicinity just lent $65,000 to a local business—a beloved local family—because they believe that much in what Abby and Adam do for the community.
Business is BOOMING, but within several months’ time, we need to pay this lender back, or else the sale of the businesses could be a thing. But let’s see what we can do in just 1 month…
HOW YOU CAN HELP…
First and foremost, you can call, text, email, social media, or drive yourself to Nederland Feed & Pet and Log Cabin Grooming, and give them your emotional support! I may be Abby’s sister, but my voice alone isn’t enough support and confirmation that there is NOTHING to be ashamed of. For some reason, people in our society spend lifetimes getting away with deliberately thwarting the IRS. But when good people struggle through family crises, they get their doors locked.
