We are a small, hometown weekly newspaper covering hard news, local sports, community & education in North Georgia.  Recently, Publisher Mark Thomason was arrested as a result of an FOIA Request.

Mark has been selected to speak at the Society of Professional Journalists' National Convention in New Orleans, LA, as well as several other recent events across the country.

Any help is welcome and appreciated.  We strive to continue fighting the good fight, holding public officials accountable and standing up for the U.S. Constitution and First Amendment.  Stand with us.

Thank you!

Thanks to everyone willing to support. The recent exposure we have given to what appears to be shady North Ga politics has been felt thru our advertising base. Help us continue to shine a light on the dark corners as we fight to bring our subscribers the truth- no matter the cost.

This morning we were on site with Habitat for Humanity at their new home build! We are known for investigative reporting, but we love sharing the positive news throughout our community by continuously covering organizations such as Habitat, Feed Fannin, Fannin County Empty Stocking and more. Your donation helps us not only fight the good fight, but also recognize the hard working volunteers in our community. We thank you for your help, and promise to continue doing all we can to hold officials accountable, while giving credit where credit is due!

There is nothing more despicable than a judge who thinks she's above the law. I will gladly support this newspaper and the First Amendment.

Shame on all of those who are against journalism - some people in this world have gotten use to media outlets with no guts - who do not pursue public records. Plus you have those who do not like it when their faults and lies are revealed. I do not known the people involved - but it sounds like bitter people with axes to grind just because of media seeking info - even this judge. Not sure if she had been a good or bad judge - but she surely violated a principal - not to get personally involved in your rulings. This country would not be where it is - with freedoms - if all reporters and news organizations were like the majority - lack of guts> I commend this paper and its editor and will donate.

I disagree with Jennifer Reavis Collis' opinion - that the FF prints "slander." It's not slander (but I think she meant "libel") if it's true. What I HAVE seen in the Focus is some hard-hitting reporting on misdeeds that the other two papers won't touch or just gloss over. We need the Focus.

Fannin County needs the Fannin Focus. It is the only media outlet we have in these north GA hills that takes investigative reporting seriously -- and DELIVERS. Exposes of questionable money handling in the Recreation Department, Animal Control, and the Road Department are just three stories the Focus has broken. For those reasons, I can well understand the bully judge's alarm when publisher Mark Thomason would make Open Records inquiries into a bank account holding taxpayer funds but not subject to public scrutiny.

Why would anyone want to help this news paper? Have people not really read the slanderous articles that have been produced through this paper? I am totally dissapointed in the paper and will not support their attacks on individuals.

Tried to donate but got message the is something that needs to be fixed by those who put this page up - let me know when fixed - this is too important of an issue. The judge and anyone else - like prosecutor maybe - who have allowed this to happen - should resign or face their own criminal charges. I left a polite but forceful message on the judge's work phone - guess they do not answer phones now.

I was just thinking about your case this morning when the discussion turned to reporting on judicial issues in a media ethics class I'm taking. Glad to help out with this!

Thanks for joining SPJ and agreeing to speak at the SPJ national convention. Please be sure to come by the FOI Committee meeting while you're at the convention!
