Every Child Deserves Water

Tax deductible

We need your help! It Can Be Done! is an international all-volunteer nonprofit organization, working for safe water access in Mt. Kilimanjaro Tanzania villages since 2006. Our efforts have brought relief to several thousand kids and families, a clinic, a school and two churches. ItCanBeDoneAfrica.org

We are asking for your help so we can double our current impact and bring life saving water to more children and families in urgent need, because
Every Child Deserves Water.

The 10,000 dollar goal funds will go towards the drilling and building of a maximum yield deep-water borehole, solar pumping system, piped delivery to schools and public access tap points.

Reason For the Campaign:
30,000 children die each day in Africa from contaminated water and 85% of all diseases in African children under 5 are caused by water-borne illnesses. The Uru Kilimanjaro region suffers from the loss of millennia old glacial waters due primarily to recent catastrophic climate change.

Women and children suffer greatly, climbing steep unsafe paths with 5 gallon buckets on their heads. Children are particularly vulnerable to waterborne diseases and often miss school in order to search for and carry water to the family.

It was concern for these children and their families that lead It Can Be Done! to drill its first maximum yield borehole. This same urgent concern drives us to do more now, with the help of GoFundMe supporters, because Every Child Deserves Water.

Sustainable Impact:
Water in Africa is a huge problem, larger than any single non-profit or government can solve. But by focusing our efforts in one geographical area and working with local village partners, we knew we could do our part and make a sustainable difference.

The first ‘Grandmother Well’ proved our concept of a community participation driven project. Cooperation from the water users and village officials of the Uru community through ‘sweat equity’ for trenching and laying pipe, financial contributions, local management and low water user fees for system maintenance, ensures that these projects are sustainable.

Photos ABOVE depict the secure area for the Grandmother Well and pumphouse, and one of several large storage cisterns holding clean water. This well supplies safe water access to 3600 people in 3 villages, via 5 kilometers of piping and 54 public access tap points (kiosks). But thousands of kids and their families are still without access to healthy water.

The New Water System:
2/3rds of Uru's population are children under the age of 14. The new deepwater source and distribution system we intend to build in early 2017, depending on the success of fundraising efforts, will almost double our current impact!

Our new water system will:
* increase safe water access from 2400 to 4000 children
*expand service from 1 school to 4 schools
* boost safe water access from 400 students to 1100 students
* raise safe water access from 3600 to 6000 people

Respected Village Leader and Tanzanian ICBD Ally, Rev. Fr. Godfrey Jumatano, Kishumundu Parish, Uru East says:
“Access to this safe water has had a deep impact on us. Our children are thriving so much better than they did before they had access to the Kimocholo water. Additionally, it has greatly freed the time of our women and children…girls especially, and indeed my time too… that used to be spent fetching water”.

Father Jumatano says more: “Our girls can now use the time to study, do homework or even play instead. Hundreds of households now have access to this water, so our community has saved thousands of hours that can be used for productive work. We are grateful for It Can Be Done!’s efforts to expand this program for Uru schools and families”.

Asante Sana!
(Swahili Meaning = Thank You Very Much!)

We know the mission is not complete yet, and we have a ways to go, but we also know better than anyone that a few people giving what they can, WILL move mountains, after all, we’ve done it before.

So, thank you for your time in reading this, thank you to the folks who donate, thank you to the people who can only share our story, and ultimately we plan to thank you for enhancing the lives of thousands of children and bringing a brighter future to these Kilimanjaro villages.

Asante Sana,
It Can Be Done!
