Heya guys, gals, and nonbinary pals! I'm Erin, but you probably figured that out based on the title. Anyway! I'm doing a GoFundMe to help pay for some very important, very affirming surgery. Read through and see if you want to support me?

Before we go into the whole pitch....thing, let me ask you a question. Have you ever owned a pair of clothes that just didn't fit right? It pinched in places and was baggy in others and you just felt uncomfortable the whole time you were wearing it? Yeah, I have that too. The problem is, it's my body. My skin. Genetics gave me this extra attachment that I didn't ask for or particularly want, and it's caused me no end of frustration, especially in the past couple of years.

I'm a trans woman. I have a penis. I would like to correct that second part. The problem is, I don't have a Scrooge McDuck vault of gold coins that I can swim in and use to fix my problems. That's where this fundraiser comes in!

I've got insurance, but the odds of them covering much of this are slim, as I still live in Louisiana and the south isn't super up to date with things, or overly supportive of trans rights and needs by and large. I'm still going to push as hard as I can on the insurance front, but I'll be out of commission for at least a month, and will need to fly back and forth for checkups and pay for a place to stay for the week I'm in Texas in recovery and all of the incidentally related expenses that arise from something like this.

So! Here's my math on things: the base surgery cost is about $18,000. IF insurance helps, it'll be classified as out of network. That means I have a hefty coinsurance and then deductibles and all, which would be about $7000 or so. Add in flight costs, a place to stay, aftercare, and money lost from missing work and we are probably past the $7500 mark, but I'm trying not to be over-grabby on people's money.

I hate having to ask for help, but... That's what I'm doing. I'm part of an amazing community and they've shown me love and support that I'll spend the rest of my days trying to repay, and I'm back asking for more. Just this little bit extra to get me where I want to go. Where I need to go. If you can't support me financially, spreading the word would be a huge help! You're already awesome for taking the time to read this.

So! Yeah. Not every trans woman gets or even WANTS GRS, but this one does. Very very badly. Can you help me? <3 -Erin

So! "funny" story time.
I was back home from surgery. I had spent the weekend going from feeling better to very rapidly feeling much worse. Christine and I went to the ER in Baton Rouge and they determined it would be a good idea to admit me, then shoot me off to Houston.

A 5 hour ambulance ride is....unpleasant, to say the least. The good news is that I survived!

The surgeons here opened me back up to look around and determined that the catheter they put in after the surgery led to a UTI, which led to causing some effects in the surrounding area that were wholly unpleasant and not entirely worth repeating.

Anyway, for the immediate future (next few days) we will be in Houston AGAIN and eating into our savings again and it's frustrating, but the idea of feeling better soon is one that I am optimistic about.

Cheers, friends, and thanks for following the story through this point!

Hey friendos! It's been a little while. The past few months have been nothing if not immensely frustrating on the surgeon front. I switched insurance plans specifically because the surgery facility said they took that insurance, only for them to turn around and say otherwise once the insurance plan was active.

I decided to walk away from that place and restarted my search. I managed to find a doctor that is closer, has better reviews, is more communicative, and takes my insurance! the only downside is that there's a bit of a hospital stay afterwards (the first place wanted me to stay in a hotel room with a nurse overnight for like $700?)

Anyway they confirmed that they should be able to do my surgery at the end of May like I wanted, and now it's just a matter of paperwork and getting everything approved and stamped and all that.

So! This place may be a little more expensive? But I'm not quite sure yet. Holding my breath that the final numbers are manageable.

Also, I want to thank all of you. For reading this. For sharing my posts. For donating. All of it is helpful and immensely supportive in a way I couldn't have dreamed of.

You're all the best. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So! I just heard back from my case manager at work!

She said that the clinic takes another insurance plan so I'm going to switch over to that in November during open enrollment. still a ways to go before we are all set, but this helps!
