Barry Enzman led the the Glenelg High School Music Program for 41 years from 1974 through 2015. During this time, he inspired countless students to strive for excellence not only in music, but in all areas of their lives. As Barry often puts it, "obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off of the goal."
The band room at Glenelg High School is filled with hundreds of trophies attesting to the excellence of the program he ran including the Symphonic Band, Marching Unit, Dance Squad, Silks Squad, and Jazz Ensemble. Notably, the Glenelg Symphonic Band has an unbroken string of perfect "superior" ratings in county adjudications for the past 39 years -- an unprecedented accomplishment at both the county and state levels. Also, the Jazz Ensemble has toured Europe a dozen times performing at some of the most prestegious and selective jazz festivals in the world.
This scholarship fund is being set up to allow for an annual scholarship to be awarded each year to a college-bound GHS graduating senior, selected by the GHS Band Director, based on their dedication to the GHS Music Department and financial need. If we achieve our goal, we will have sufficient funds to establish a scholarship fund that can award annual scholarships into perpetuity.
We plan to announce the establishment of this scholarship fund as part of the retirement ceremonies honoring Mr. Enzman at GHS on June 13 . We will create a plaque that lists the Founder and Patron sponsors. It will be presented to Mr. Enzman and subsequently be permanently displayed in the Band Room.
All sponsors will be recognized in the program and any amount is appreciated, there is no minimum contribution.
