Stroke fund for Elicio´s dad
I am Elicio Ember, designer and artist for Second Life, living in Mexico City. On February 20th my 72 year old father suffered several brain hemorrhages. He worked for the Senior Citizen University in Mexico, which has a shady and profoundly uncaring practice of firing and recontracting their senior citizen teachers all with the purpose of not giving them any kind of benefits, including the government sponsored social security. Due to a private doctor's wrong diagnosis, who recommended we waited since it might have been dehydration due to an intestinal infection, we waited till morning Feb 21st. Seeing alarming signs (none of which were traditionally related to strokes and brain hemorrhages) we took him to emergencies in a private hospital. We have neither a high enough income to cover the expenses and there are several factors that make this a very difficult and stressful situation, including the high costs of medical care. You can read the full details in this post, and how the situation has evolved on the following posts on my artist Facebook page:
Since I can't launch the campaingn from Mexico, my trustworthy and good friend Felix Buchler is helping me to.
We have no option but to ask for help. Since anyone who has been through this knows, the hospital expenses are only the beginning. If you can, all help, big or small, will be of paramount importance on giving my father the needed hospital treatment, and rehab in the future, and paying for the expenses on moving out of the city, since the place where he lives, and where I live myself is just not proper for a rehab and needed care he will need from now on.
My name is Felix Büchler and I am a friend of Elicio Ember, the much loved Second Life artist and owner of the very popular Cerridwen's Cauldron.
As many of you will know, Elicio's father suffered a very serious stroke some days ago. The family - including Elicio - lives in Mexico, and access to healthcare is difficult without funds to pay for it.
Here is an extract from Elicio's Facebook page. (You can read it in full here - https://www.facebook.com/elicioember/posts/416337362039959)
My dear friends. I wish I had a better way of saying this. But there is none. So I will just say it. My father had a stroke yesterday that was not seen to until today. There is no clear prognosis yet but things are serious and some kind of neural damage is confirmed. How serious is yet unknown, as his brain is still swollen and blood obscures the true size of the damage.
... You will need some context. Public health security in Mexico is insufficient and often of very low quality. And often even government institutions seek ways for skirting or ignoring health insurance or not subscribing their workers to the public health program. My father is a 72 year 5 idiom speaker that gave language classes during the whole day at the Senior Citizens University in Mexico. A government institution. Such insitituion does not subscribe their teachers to any kind of health protection program. ... So, my father has no health protection whatsover. Which I found about just 4 days ago. Private health insurance is usually out of reach for people like me, several of my sisters and my father. Basically the non-existant middle class and below. Mexican public hospitals; although they admit people not subscribed to the public health program, they will often treat people not subscribed as low priority in an already overloaded and poor health system. It's a Russian roullete. People can be treated well and recover. People die waiting to be treated. People die by malpractice. And if not subscribed to public health, uncertainity is always higher. So we took him to a private hospital before risking a long wait. I have 5 sisters, but not even between all of us will we be able to pay for the hospital charges without severely straining all our economies, not even considering all the expenses of rehab and care that will follow if...well. If he makes it. ...
Thank you for reading. And for your prayers and support if you can afford it.

My Father Had a Stroke Last Night.
Hello everyone. I have bad news I am afraid.
My father have a confirmed stroke that was treated late today
I will have to cancel my designing the Fantasy Faire sim this year, and will try creating a fund rasier somehow soon, as he had no health insurance or social security (thanks to government dishonesty). Please take 5 minutes if my work has brought you light to read this post. I know the last months were rough, but all that pales with this.

Elicio Ember: (Saved Fri Mar 24 20:55:16 2017)Hello my friend.
The results of the resonance interpretation were, well, I guess they could have been worse, but they could have been much better too. There was extensive secondary bleeding which will require surgery to drain either the liquid or blood that has acumulated in both frontal lobes and is pressuring the brain. The surgery is not an emergency but it is indeed urgent, and of course is way more expensive than what has already been paid.
My father seems well but they let us very clear that without prompt surgery he can seizure at any moment and both his motor and cognitive skills will deteriorate.
So the funds gathering is way more relevant now than it was previously. Again, thanks for all your kindness and all you have done and are doing.
Please have a look at it and read !!
Elicio tells in his Group Notices:
There are some favorable signs on my father's CVA recovery, and wonderful news on the efforts being done by the wonderfully generous SL community. My father and my family need your help.
You can read more about it at my FB page:
Or at the Filling the Cauldron blog being chaired by Inara and Saffia:
If you can please get involved, donate or support through your purchases. We do need your help. A heartfelt thank you.
Also, (about raising funds for my Fathers CVA) there is a sister event to the Filling the Cauldron fund raising effort: Ember's Cauldron is being run by Lerochelle Destiny to raise funds. You can read more about it here:
And. Coming as soon as possible is a new set inspired on the New Zealand glow cave worms. Here is a preview picture of whats coming:
I have some good news though, and you can relay this if you want. My father has done some noticeable improvements, has started to eat a bit more on his own, he is much more attentive and though he has still trouble remembering some words and events, I am amazed already, since he has not even started rehab yet. I am trying to take it one day at a time, but things look better on his health state already. He has only a little weakness on walking and does a lot of reminescing, but is improving day to day, and more importantly he noticed it himself without us telling him. so, today, I will take it as good news.
