Honoring Ed Moss

Hi, my name is Zarleen.
My father, Ed Moss, renowned Cincinnati jazz piano player, passed away early Friday morning, September 9th.  Wow, what a life he has lived!
Over many decades, he expertly created amazing music, delicious food, and eclectic, beautiful atmospheres in which to enjoy both.  He had a knack for implementing his ideas and rallying others to help him realize his visions.  Many of us have learned from him and benefitted from his musical and culinary insights and teachings. He has been quite a mover and shaker on the Cincinnati jazz scene for more than 50 years.
Unfortunately, between his illnesses, being laid up for the last several months, and pouring his whole heart and pocketbook into the Point, he left this world with very little money, some hefty bills, and a few loose ends.  I want to honor him as best I can, but lack the funds to do so.  I am completely unaccostomed to asking for money/help, but I'm at a loss for ideas.

Your donation, however small, would be a great help in giving him a small family funeral, paying his bills, and organizing and implementing a great memorial where all of the people who were influenced by him and his music can get together to celebrate his exceptionally prolific life.
Thanks so very much for any help you can offer and I will post more about his memorial when I've had a chance to work it all out.

Additionally, I have created a trubute page where you can share photos, music, videos, stories, and thoughts.  Please go here to view and contribute:

Much love and blessings to you all!

Hello Dear Friends,
First of all, I want to express my sincere gratitude to you all, once again. Your help and warm words were a great comfort in one of the most difficult times of my life. <3
I'm so sorry that I've not updated about the memorial in a while. I was very sad and then our dear friend, Arthur Quitman, passed away several months after Ed, so I was feeling very sad, indeed, and terribly unmotivated.
I am beginning to feel a bit better now and have formed a basic plan. I saved the liquor license at Ed's club - a big ordeal - since Ed was quite behind in paying taxes, due to his illness, and I want to re-open Schwartz's Point. I'm working hard on the Point and on raising funds to fix the roof and a number of other essential repairs that are out of my price range. I was contacted by Local 12 News last Wednesday for a segment on the Point, They interviewed me about Ed, the Point, my plans, and fundraising efforts. I was so pleased to have their help.
Here is a link to the Local 12 article if you are curious:

My hope is to get the club open, then host a memorial there for Ed. It just seems fitting to have it there, if possible. I am putting together a web page and posting updates to The Jazz Club at Schwartz's Point facebook page, if you want to keep up on happenings at the Point. Here is the FB address: https://www.facebook.com/JazzAtSchwartzsPoint

I also started a fundraising page for the Point, if you want to help with efforts to get it open-ready:
https://www.youcaring.com/schwartzspointhistoricbuilding-785446

Once again, thanks so much for your warmth and help during such a rough time and I'm sorry for the delayed memorial.
I will keep you updated on happenings.
Great heaps of love and peace to you all!!

Hello, all of you wonderful people! I am so overwhelmingly grateful to you for your condolences, kind donations, and lovely words. Because of you, I was able to give Ed a small, beautiful funeral ceremony yesterday. I am hoping that it was a warm and healing event for those in attendance. Having never done this before, I am struck by how much work goes into planning and implementing a funeral while crushed with grief. My heart goes out to all those who have ever had to do this or will have to it in the future. I've been so busy, that I have hardly had a chance to look at this page, but I'm so incredibly moved by how many people were touched by my father and his music. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and love- showing how very far his presence reached.
Now that I have a chance to catch my breath, my next steps are to thank each of you, personally, and begin paying Ed's bills.
I will keep you posted about the memorial for Ed, to happen about the end of October.
Sending you all tons and tons of gratitude and love from the bottom of my heart,
-Zarleen

Did not know of his passing but saw the channel 12 story. Even though I have not heard him play In 30 years, I still talk about the days I used to patron the Emanon club. The best piano jazz trio I have ever heard live. Simply amazing! Barry and Bob were pretty good too......

In the last few years of his life, Ed became a mentor and friend to our son, Evan. We only met him once but suspect he is one of a kind. So grateful to him for sharing his music and stories and friendship. We hope you meet your goal and have a wonderful and fitting celebration of his life.

Dear Zarleen, It's been a long time since I've seen you! I'm so sorry to hear about your families loss. I was just driving by your father's jazz club on the way home thinking about what beautiful memories I had there. I saw this pop up in the midst of donating to a friend who just lost her mother to cancer. I didn't realize you were going through the same difficulties. It's so difficult to lose a dear loved one. I remember listening to such talented musicians, of course, including him, while having wine and such great food on Vine St. He was so passionate about not only music but about people enjoying life. My thoughts are with you and your family. Much love, Eli
