I had always dreamed of being an astronaut.
My father was in the military, so we were stationed in Germany at the time. In my 3rd grade class we were asked to choose a planet to do a report on. Jupiter caught my eye. It was the largest and I heard a classmate say there was a “crazy super storm spot” on it. I was sold.
As I read about how the planets formed and are suspended in nothingness, everything changed. Suddenly I wasn’t just a kid in a classroom, I became a tiny pixel in a much larger picture. I was hooked.
I shared my fascination of the cosmos with my parents and at the age of 11 my father and I began planning out how this dream could become reality. I studied, participated in academic groups, remained active, and planned on becoming a pilot in the military. But then I tore up my knee in soccer and then again in Army ROTC in college and the surgeries never stopped. I was crushed.
I was taught to be rather adaptive in life as you can never really plan for the unexpected. But not all unexpected circumstances are bad. I met the closest friend I’ve ever known and have fallen in love. He is my biggest supporter and has been more than happy to help create my dream Eclipse Wedding.
