We, Dr. Roz's Healing Place, are calling on all community members for your energy, love, and support in helping us to open a small thrift store in order to sell new and gently used items as a way to financially support our programming.
Dr. Roz's Healing Place was founded in 1982 and has been serving the Scarborough community ever since. Women come from all over the city to seek protection, education, empowerment, and healing. At DRHP, we believe that with the proper support and guidance, abused women and children can move forward in positive directions. We offer a wide range of programming to help survivors of domestic violence move through their trauma and pain towards the path to healing.
We are planning to open a small, not-for-profit thrift store named Banyan Tree that will operate solely on volunteers to sell new and gently used items. We intend for our store to beneficially serve the community as it will provide lower-income community members with the opportunity to buy new and gently used items at a much lower, affordable cost. All proceeds and profits will be funding our initiative, Women's Lives Matter 2.
Banyan Tree will sell primarily brand new children's toys and women and children's clothing and accessories. You may also find kitchen and homeware goods, electronics and supplies as well as brand new beauty and personal care products.
We are asking $5000 for a startup cost and this cost is broken down as follows:
approx. $3000.00 - First/last months rent
approx. $1000.00 - Storage, shelving, display, mannequins, decor, paint etc.
approx. $1000.00 - Business costs such as payment systems and scanning and tagging systems
